Hey, guys! I was wondering... What if Renata decided to pursue the CR1 and paid the bill from NVC... how long NVC usually takes to process the CR1 and send it to the consulate??

I was thinking about that because even though I applied for a k3, if they send my I130 to NVC like they did to her case, I might consider getting the CR1. This way when I arrive ther I can work and go to college right away... But I don't wanna wait 6 more months far away from my husband!!

What do you guys think?

Oooh Grats Steve ! Thats awesome I hadn't seen u got approved ! Let's keep in touch about the NVC then ! I dont know if im as optimistic as u...next week at NVC, lol that would be great but according to VJ its more like 2 weeks  Renatchi's also took 2 weeks so...

But either way after the nerve wrecking Approval wait, I think we should be fine ! :star:

Loolinette,

Yes, the average time from NOA2 to NVC is 10 to 14 days. that is next week, Monday to Thursday. Then they usually send the K3 to the consulate the next day. And it averages around 4 or 5 days to be received at the consulate.

Monica,

I asked the lady at NVC the same thing, about the NVC times. She said that NVC usually processes CR1's in 2-3 months. Another month to get to Rio de Janeiro, plus another month to interview. So, we are talking another 5 months here. That's what the lady said.

She said, if money is an issue but time isn't, then tell your husband to pay the bill NVC sent to him and we will pursue with CR1. The fees are USR 400,00 and another US$ 70,00 and it takes another 5 months for you to have your interview. BUT if time is an issue and money isn't, then tell your husband to IGNORE the bill and wait for Rio de schedule your interview and then pay the US$ 1.011,00 in fees for your AOS once when you get in the US.

Monica, but if you check the CR1 timelines, you'll see that the average time for NVC to process everything is 3 months. OOooh, and for CR1's, it's the NVC who schedules the interview date. For K3's it's the consulate.

Well, since time is an issue to me and my baby, we will go on with K3. Once we are in the USA we will have 2 years to do the AOS. So.... not that I plan waiting 2 years, we want to apply for the AOS as soon as I get there.

In a nutshell, we will go on with K3 and see what happens. I am already preparing for interview. I have my doctor's appointment next Tuesday! YAY!

Renata

I was thinking the same thing. Because both of my petitions were approved last thursday and they said they sent them both to the NVC. So it looks like they did the same to me as Renatachi.

I have been doing alot of reading and here is what I have found. If you use some shortcuts posted by Lotofpatience in the WIKI, then you can get through the NVC in 6 to 8 weeks. http://www.visajourney.com/forums/index.ph...ost&id=7083

In my case, this has all gone much much faster than we had thought. I was talking to my wife, and she can't leave Argentina until probably mid August. Because we bought an Apartment in Buenos Aires and there is some final paperwork that isn't going to be ready until Mid August.

So, I was thinking about going with both processes. If everything went good, our I-130 could possibly be sent to the embassy before her K3 interview, then we could just interview for the CR1 instead. Or she could go to the K3 interview, and when the I-130 got to the embassy, if she was still in Argentina, just go to that interview, or if she was in the United States, she could just return to Buenos Aires for the interview. Either way she would get the CR1 much sooner than doing AOS. And cheaper. AOS is $1010, I-130 is $470.

I do not want to abandon the K3 because, if there is a problem in the NVC with the I-130, I do not want to slow her down getting to the US.

Steve,

in my case, fast is good. I mean, I have nothing here in Brazil anymore. The more I stay here, more rent I have to pay, less income (I am on 2 month notice at work), etc etc. I am already finished with college and have nothing to keep me here anymore.

My heart, mind and soul are with my husband in Portland. So, the fastest way to get me close to him, this is what we'll pick.

On the other hand, I agree that the shortcuts can help a lot and really make the process at NVC much much faster. Plus, CR1 is a much better visa!

So, if I were you Steve, I'd definetely go with the CR1! No doubt about it. And also, at the same time, go with the K3.

Monica, the Work Authorization is rather fast. In 30 days tops you'll get it.

Well, but that's my opinion. I love my husband and desperately need to be with him. I cannot take another month without him. My birthday is in September and we must spend that day together. Period. We make each other that promise.

Oh, and my husband would never do the shortcuts - he just wants me there as soon as possible. He's a rather busy man and paid the attorney exactly because he didn't want to be stressed about visas. I know the attorney won't do the shortcuts too, so if we went with CR1, we would have to go through that 3 months process.

I guess I am stuck with K3... lol :hehe:

Renathci,

I am in the same position. I do not want to be apart from my wife one day longer. In my case, I think that I can go through both processes and get my wife here in the same time. But I am still going to continue with the K3 just in case there is a problem at the NVC. I want her to be here as soon as possible. Also, in my case, if her case is complete after she is already in the US, it is not a big deal for us to travel back to Buenos Aires for the interview. However, my wife almost fainted when I talked to her about it and told her that we need two originals of all of the documents. The documents from Buenos Aires are not a problem, But the police certificates from Peru that her father is working on are not that easy since she is not in Peru.

I also think that it could work for you if you were not using the lawyer. But I agree with you that the shortcuts will not work for you. Lawyers will not do things like this. So yes I agree your best bet is the K3. And I know you will be with your husband very very soon.

Geez, poor Jessica (about her documents). Does she work in BA's?

I will wait then for Rio to process my K3... I'll keep calling them to see if I have an interview date... I'll start calling on Monday, that will be 7 days since NVC forwarded my K3.

I just need to be with my baby... that's all.

Yes, poor Jessica!! I had to calm her down last night, because now she is all worried about getting two copies of everything.

And actually, now she is not working. To make a long story short. A friend of hers was looking for a job and had done temp work and Jessica's job in the past. So due to the fact that she was going to be quitting soon anyway, she quit and her boss hired her friend. This makes it easier for her taking care of things for the visa, but the problem is with her police certificates from Lima. Her Father is working on getting those for her, and it makes it more difficult because she is not in Lima herself. Because her and her father are sending things back and forth for things like her fingerprints and such. And for Lima, there are three different police certificates she needs to get. One is easy, but she says the other two are not that easy without her in Lima. But she is the type of person that worries about everything, I think, and from things I read, it is not as bad as she thinks it is. So I feel everything will work out just fine.

And me too!!! I just want to be with my baby!!!!!!

Oh, I understand. Here in Brazil, if you have a proxy, you can go to the federal police and request the police records. Like for instance, Jessica makes a proxy on her father's name, that way he could go to the police and request everything. Here in Brazil it works.

I also worry a lot about everything. I thought it was a Virgo thing, but I see that Jessica is also like that, so I guess this is South American style! lol

I wish you the best of luck on everything!

Renata

Hello Steve,

Laura

Do you know if they also received your I-130? Because I have been checking the automated system for receipt of my I-130. I know to find out about the I-129F you have to talk to someone. So I was waiting until they acknowledged receipt of my I-130 before I talked to them. But I will call them now.

Yes, that's what she keeps telling me, that it is a cultural thing. Down in South America, everyone is so used to running into problems whenever they try to get anything done, so you begin to expect that there will be problems.

And, yes, the proxy thing is the same for Peru. I think she is just worrying too much. He already got the first police certificate, although now he has to go get another copy. And he and her brother are working on the other two. Even they keep telling her not to worry. If they have problems, they tell her "they have friends" in the police department that can help for the right price. But this just makes her worry more. But soon it will all be over and we will be together and we can relax.
