How to Make your husband Happy

Confused again In our talks, (and we talk alot about whats been said on here) and i wont repeat what he said on some of that stuff, anyway what i gather from him is women are held to such HIGH reguard as is obvious with the actions to his(their) moms, sisters, aunts etc, then what happens when the wife comes along? You need a list of rules in how to treat them? Why not just do the same respect you would for your mom or is this where the authority/ruler thing kicks in

A real man would never hit a woman. It takes more strength to not hit her than hitting her.

I have never ever gotten the feeling where I would even consider hitting my wife. There is no excuse for violence, and certainly no reason to even become violent with a loved one.

What I meant to say is that it takes a lot less energy to not become angry to the point of violence. I'm all about saving energy

I can only assume that these rules are merely a poor interpretation of what the Qur'aan advocates, if indeed it does provide rules for a successful muslim marriage.

Any rules that apply unequally are at risk of producing a dominant/supplicant relationship - the rules as presented are no exception. The rules would place the man in domination over the women, all be it if followed in conjunction with the rules for the wife this domination would be implemented kindly.

The rules appear to indicate that only the man in the relationship is capable of fully understanding the rules and it is his duty to remind the woman of her duties and punish her when she fails to follow them. It appears to assume that in all cases the wife will be less intelligent, less intelectually capable than the man. The rules appear to promote the idea that that wife is almost certainly a little 'simple' in the head.

It appears to be the man's duty to ensure that the wife doesn't stray down a sinful path, almost as if he is allowed to assume a position of spiritual authority over her. This point is emphasised by the proclamation that more women than men end up in hell, presumably because they are by their very nature more prone to sin and less able to understand that what they are doing is sinful.

There is nothing about these rules that promotes the idea that marriage is a partnership with equal benefits and responsibilities.

Maybe for those who are treated like princes by their moms, sisters, etc they expect the same from the spouse, which is unrealistic unless the person is from the same culture or thinks that is fine. And maybe even if they hold the women in their life in high regard, it's still the husbands/fathers who have the final words.

It's a husband's and a wife's duty to take care of each other in multiple ways. Happiness doesn't rely on one person or the other; it's a team effort. When the want and willingness to make it work falls apart, so does the marriage.

still thinking on this one, from what i saw his mom kinda rules their roost, when money was needed she was the one that had it etc. when we visited his married friends (middle aged) i saw her again as pretty much the boss, maybe differences in the families i dont know, saw it a little also in his sisters marriage

Misunderstanding Frances(and lack of using quotes!). I said that in my previous post about why some men may think they are the ruler in a marriage even though they had treated their moms/sisters with high regard. She was quoting me, saying from what she has seen it hasn't been the case with her SO.

It's better if people either use the quote or change font while quoting to avoid confusion.
