:cry:

Yesterday he was fine, he was normal. At around 8pm he colapsed to the floor and began crying. I immediatly rushed him to the emergancy vet hospital. About 3 yrs ago he went into kidney failure, and his vet was able to save him. Since then ive been real careful with him, the right food, diet, hes always been an inside cat so no outdoors. When i took him to the ER vet, she sd his blood sugar was real high and suspected diabetes, well i know from before and my mom being an RN, that in kidney failure your blood sugar sky rockets, so i told her, no it was not diabetes, it was kidney failure. the er vet sd she assumed diabetes and thats what she was treating him for. he was getting worse as we argued so i told her just to do what she could to help him. She called me all thru the night letting me know his condition and that she gave him 2 insulin shots. At 7am i went to get him as they told me to so i could take him to his regular dr. She handed him to me as i finished writing out the $524 check, and sd "hes doing wonderful, he is going to be fine, just take him to his vet, and they will keep him a few days for observation". it took me 5 mins to drive to his vet, and 5 mins later, laying in my daughters arms, we lost our beloved Cocoa. Its so hard to even write it. We brought him home and made him a beautiful casket, and my daughter made him a beautiful headstone, pic attached. omg i still cant belive this has happened. IF the ER vet had treated him for kindey failure, he may be alive. I also stopped payment on the check, as i am sure they didnt do what they could to save him, and then made me think they did.

Ofcorse that, and my anger wont bring cocoa back. I dont even know what else to write, im crying so hard. i just needed to get it out in the open as it is killing me inside. :cry: oh, and he was only 7 years old :(

The Rainbow Bridge

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.

There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.

There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.

The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

Wow....I'm so sorry to hear this :cry: I know just how you feel; we lost our beloved Vicky 10 months ago due to liver tumors :( We have her ashes in a cedar chest. We found her successor the day we had her put down, and that has helped a lot with the healing process.

When my pastor lost his calico, Chloe (who coincindentally shares her name with our new kitty), he wrote this:

FOR CHLOE, THE CALICO CAT

(1988-2001)

You were born in a Tulsa garage

the only girl of four

calico with checkerboard toes

and wide, green eyes;

Or were they yellow?

And how did you change them to suit your mood?

Your mother was a regal princess, black and sleek,

who taught you well to ride in life’s backseat

without too much complaining

and never miss the litterbox,

except perhaps to make a point.

Your father?

Well, who ever really knows without the proper papers?

part Maine #######, that’s for certain

to look at your tufted ears and paws

and long, luxurious coat with peacock’s plume for a tail.

Daddy’s girl.

A southern belle with barnyard manner;

A Woolworth’s girl who went to Saks one day

and found a coat she just had to have.

Magnet for admiring glances

“What a beauuuuutiful cat,” everyone purred,

knowing but half the truth.

I brought you home one impulsive Thursday evening,

newly weaned together

with your sibling brother “CB.”

“He always follows her around,” the lady said.

And so he did for five inseparable years

until untimely Death made you to follow him.

You loved the outdoors in metered doses,

venturing only far enough

to sniff some sacred flower

or nibble a chosen blade of grass,

then quickly retreat to the sanctuary of the living room

depositing that favored blade on Karen’s favorite rug

together with this morning’s breakfast.

Dancing was your passion, catnip your single vice,

except for a bit of turkey stolen from the table.

Grooming was your daily pleasure

or shall I say obsession?

An affinity acquired from a crazy Hungarian lady

who taught you the fine art of celebrity before you came to LA.

You were our reigning diva, and we, your humble servants,

acolytes to your every need.

“Hamper Queen” we called you

intolerant of phone calls that excluded you;

open books you made a royal throne;

a desk piled high with responsibilities

a favored sleeping spot,

reminding us that life is more than labor

and Sabbath rest comes even to the beasts.

“Snuggle beast” we called you

sleeping nightly next to Karen’s head.

“Don’t touch her or she’ll start to purr,” I’m warned;

unable to resist temptation’s lure,

and a quiet night of sleep is interrupted

by the rumbling purr of simply being.

For twelve short years and a fist full of months

we danced as Man and Beast together

Vestige of Eden’s paradise lost

and foretaste of New Creation gained in Christ

where lion and lamb lie down in peace together.

Now rest well, dear calico companion,

in the Ark that once embraced your ancient ancestor

beneath the multicolored rainbow,

sacrament of the Promise that Death gives way to Life.

Rest in the Word who made you

and held you firmly in His death

one good dark Friday

between the hours of Noon and Three;

And who holds you still in His eternal Being

until that Day we dance anew

on fresh green grass of Promised Land.

And thanks for all the nuzzles.

Sorry to hear about your kitty. One of the unfortunate things about pets is that we get so close to them and then, since they will not live as long as us, we have to face the death of our "children" Sometimes it is 20 years, sometimes only 7 or less.

The good thing is the love and affection we get from them during their short stay with us -and that will be with you always.

Re the cause of death, it sounds like it was the kidney failure which will inevitably be fatal, just a question of when - unless you want to get a kidney transplant - and yes they are available but expensive. The high blood glucose could be from a stressful blood draw (likely), other stress or it could indeed be from Diabetes mellitus(unlikely). If your kitty was so far along and had seen an emergency vet, it is unlikely anything could have been done to save her at that point (and she had been dealing with kidney failure for 3 years), Kidney failure is probably the leading cause of death in cats but they are usually much older.

Shed your tears, accept the grief as real and necessary, and then go find a new bundle of joy. Nothing like a new kitten's antics to get you over the pain of the loss!

I'm so sorry, Tara. :( When I lost my beloved Jasper 4 years ago I think I cried for nearly two weeks, every night. He also died of renal failure and was only 7 years old.

They really are one of the family. (F)
