But it's probably not even the same because products between the UK and the US always differ. Sprite and Coke, special K, lays chips, exact same name brand stuff they screw with the recipe for god knows why  Unless I guess it's imported, but geez the price...well whatever floats your boat :P

Iain about cried one day when I bought and tried some of ya'ls canned mac and cheese xD Omg though, the like...'complete breakfast' in a can stuff though, with beans and sausage and egg and TOAST and god knows. Don't dare try that

And yes... We do like talking about food :D Not as much as duvets though

Ahaha, that's true. My Mum is VERY concerned about the lack of duvet covers down here. I think she is considering a baked bean/duvet/yoghurt mercy mission from Canada (yoghurt is another problem I'm having. I can't find anything really nice). Canadians like a good duvet cover too. If only there was an Ikea nearby (it's a nine hour drive away I mapquested it).

I AM going to Cost Plus today to check. I'll also look into an Indian food store (although not very many people of that descent in Boulder). And I'll also break down and try a variety of different Bush's beans. Maybe I sampled a bad flavour. But things are sweeter here. Even the Heinz ketchup is quite different.

On the plus side, having Target nearby does sort of make up for all these problems. All Canadians love Target, because there is absolutely NOTHING similar in Canada. We have entire threads dedicated to our love of Target over on the Canadian forum. Sad, I know!!

what's Target?

It's like a sort of superstore that has everything, and is cheap with a sort of upmarket gloss and slick advertising that makes everything seem nicer than it really is. They have their own lines of lots of products, and they get "famous" designers to do inexpensive limited edition clothing lines for them. Some of them have grocery sections too. I guess maybe the closest UK equal I have seen is ASDA?? But not sure.

:o You don't know what Target is????

http://www.target.com/

Target offers great low cost, but quality shopping opportunities in every city in the US! A very upscale version of WalMart. Try it, you'll love it!

My fiance went on about the Heinz beans and refused to try our commonly available Van Camp's Pork and Beans. I've eaten the beans in the UK and they taste the same to me. The 'pork' part, I think, was what was putting him off. They're pretty plain with no extra brown sugar, etc. There's about two tiny cubes of what I guess is the 'pork' in the whole can and that's easily fished out if it's so offensive.

Well to prove a point, I bought a can of Heinz beans at the British Market in a large city while we were there. Then back home I did a blind taste test with him. I heated the Brit beans and the common (in Texas) pork and beans and served them in identical bowls. I told him to pick out the 'real' beans from the British store. He actually picked the the Pork and Beans as the proper British beans. So those particular beans couldn't be too far off the mark.

Oh that's funny. I guess maybe it IS psychological. I don't care, I still want Heinz beans!!!!!! :stamps foot in a sulk:

I love heinz beans and I didn't think I would find any that tasted the same.... BUT I bought some Bush beans... They were a certain flavour.. I can't think what now! But they really didn't taste all that different! They could have been the original ones...

And yes... We do like talking about food :D Not as much as duvets though

So true - and I love it! This is the oddest forum, but I like to think it reflects what is truly important in the average Briton's life. :P

Well, I am glad I could bring about this discussion on such a relevant and important topic....thank you all so much for your insightful, timely commentary on this hot-button issue....I clearly came to the right place!

If any of you are ever interested in lively debate over Tim Horton's coffee and the lack of US equivilant, the wonder of never-ending soda refills, the weather, or the correct way to spell things or use your knife and fork, please feel free to venture over to the Canadian forum.

I can't agree that any US baked beans taste like those you get in the UK - but I also can't quite bring myself to pay the price for Heinz here. I now have a craving for beans on toast with real butter, rats!

Refusing to use the spellchick!

I have put you on ignore. No really, I have, but you are still ruining my enjoyment of this site. .
