Heinz Baked Beans

Okay all you Brits. I am sure this has been discussed at length in the UK forum, but my search turned up discussions 6 pages long and my baked bean craving will not allow me enough time to go through all of them to find my answer. You guys love talking about food.

Being Canadian of British parents I have grown up on Heinz beans, and so today, with my husband away on business, I decided what I needed was beans on toast for dinner (husband detests them). So I go down to Safeway for the express purpose of purchasing a tin for my dinner only to discover they don't HAVE them. That's insanity. Do they not have them at all except specialty shops for lots of extra $$?? Or can they be found at SOME select mainstream shops?? Please don't tell me I might have to order tins of beans online or something.

I wish I had known about this before I had moved!!! We would still be in Canada! :o

Where should I look?? I'm in Boulder, CO if that helps:)

THANKS!!!!

Hmmm, I don't think so. Taste different to me (tried them). Maybe psychological, but definitely taste funny. Otherwise I would gladly pay much less and stop whining:)

I love heinz beans and I didn't think I would find any that tasted the same.... BUT I bought some Bush beans... They were a certain flavour.. I can't think what now! But they really didn't taste all that different! They could have been the original ones...

World Market!!! They have them...and not sure if you guys have this up there in CO, but in CA we have local grocery stores that have things mainly from India, but for some bizarre (but o-so-excellent) reason stock Heinz Baked Beans too...so if you have any East Indian's in your neighbourhood, ask them where they get their fresh fruit/veg/provisions, and you will probably find them there, cheaper than World Market.

I don't think the Bush's beans taste similar, but I've only tasted the brown sugar and bacon flavor. They are nice but not Heinz.

A good alternative to Heinz beans here are vegetarian beans - we get the Kroger own brand but I'm sure they have them in other brands - not exactly the same but they are in tomato sauce so they're pretty similar.

We get Heinz beans from Meijer. They are so expensive. Good luck in your search :)

Sheesh.

As an American, I cannot disagree more! Bush's beans and all other American brands are much sweeter than Heinz. As someone else pointed out, vegetarian beans are the closest thing to Heinz.

Good luck in your quest!

Okay so...

The only Heinz beans available around here are "Heinz Vegetarian Beans" in a green can.

Is this what I should stock up on for him? :D

He can't stand the Bush's, especially the flavor I like... "Maple Cured Bacon".

No worries, I'll open one can of Bush's for me and the kids, and I'm sure he'll finish off a can of Heinz on his own!
