It's just that knowing that airlines all have an occasional fatality is one thing. To personally know people it has happened to is quite another.... just would make me as a person wary of using them. I know that there is a risk to travelling with animals... :(

United (formerly continental) have a great reputation and no temperature embargo - good for me as I am going in the height of summer.

What's a temperature embargo?

Many airlines have a minimum and maximum temperature at which animals can be transported. Most airlines have 85 degrees max - the animal will not be loaded into a cargo hold if the predicted temperature at destination is higher than that. So you could end up with your animal left behind in london.

Please note that 'squished' faced breeds of dogs and cats i.e. pugs and himilayns are not allowed to fly on many airlines - even if they are allowed to fly - the maximum temperature is lower with most of them.

Ah ok. Oh my cat is a Chartreux, a French breed, the other one has three colors, so no problem!

I would love to bring my cat simba but as a terrified flyer I can only imagine hel just have a heart attack being on the plane, he's a healthy 4 year old boy but I just don't think I can put him through it :(

I'd probably do it if you could sedate them but you can't can you?

I meant I'm a terrified flyer by the way

I'm on the same boat! I mean plane!! LOL

I'm leaving Tuesday with 2 cats!!! One is young and calm, the other one is hysterical so I plan to give her Zilkène plus a little Calmivet...

But I'm freaking out and I imagine letting them inside this small pet carrier without peeing... So I planned on putting those protections for babies when you change them and then go to the toilet in the plane and let them walk a bit...

I've brought my two cats, 13 and 3 years old. The youngest is a Chartreux, so whatever happens, they don't move neither say a word. But at the landing, she pooped in her carrier. The other one is another story... She wasn't happy at all so we gave her the medication. They travelled with us under the seats in a small carrier but well made. They slept most of the time.

And we travelled a long way... Two hour bus for the airport, 8 hours plane and another hour in another plane. The problem was at the customs, as usual, not nice with us and they wanted us to take them in our arms. The oldest peed... So bring towelettes!

Also don't forget there is toilets so they can drink. A little time also in the toilet in the plane was good for the old one who hates her carrier.

I didn't buy the carrier they recommend and they travelled with us at our feet.

this is what I bought and I never regreted it : http://www.amazon.com/SturdiBag-Pet-Carrier-Small-Bordeaux/dp/B002N7RT2K/ref=sr_1_13?s=pet-supplies&ie=UTF8&qid=1373696799&sr=1-13&keywords=sturdibag

Also buy those things you use for the dogs so they can pee on it. You'll be able to change it in case it's needed.

Oh and be careful! If your cat is stressed in nature, that he doesn't tear the zipper. The oldest one tried to get out. Anyway, you can fee them, whatever you need to reassure them because of those many zippers everywhere!

I think one of the cats will be too big to go in a carrier under the seat! What airline did you fly with?
