Bringing Pets From the UK

It's looking like every single pet shipper is using United airlines for larger dogs - apparently virgin, BA etc. charge based on size of crate & weight, whereas United go on weight alone which is far cheaper.

The airport I wanted to fly to will not fit his dog box into the size planes that they use. So my choices were atlanta or Orlando. PBS shipping (cheapest quote, nicest people) spoke to the airline directly who determined that Storm would be better off flying into Orlando - I don't really care which as long as he is taken care of. There is no temperature embargo due to the fact that united use temperature controlled vehicles.

I wanted a direct flight but it wasn't possible as the direct flights all get in too late for the dog to 'clear customs' - so he will have a 5 hour layover in a kennel in Newark where he will be offered food and water, a crate clean and a chance to pee -clearing customs at the same time. So when we arrive in Orlando I can collect him and go.

I will wait for the last of my quotes to come in before calling back my shortlist and checking on the details.

With finding the best solution and getting your pet to the states. It's such a blur of different information. Please let us know the happy outcome! I found navigating all the information a test to say the least when I took my cat to the states in December - he has stayed there with my fiancé. I am just sending you energy to help :)

And I too used Lufthansa - I thought they were amazing. Me and my cat travelled via Munich in the snow to dc and despite plane delays - everything went smoothly!

They can accommodate this - I originally was taking two cats (my other cat became sick before the journey and could not fly - he will return with me) - and they were able to manually book this in. The choice is that both cats can travel in hold or one can travel as carry on, with the other in hold. I also took two cases. My cats were too big to travel as carry on anyway - so booked both into hold. Call them first to confirm you can take two cats - they will check the space on the plane you want to take and confirm there is space - then book your ticket and call back to reserve the hold spaces for the cats. You will pay in cash at the airport for the extra bag and cats on the day you travel. I can dig the prices out for you if if helps?

Thank you! You're very kind. But unfortunately, if you look at my timeline, I haven't been approved yet! Still waiting after a 8 month wait!:blink:

But as soon as I know yes I'd like to!! And also they have the chip and vaccines so they're ready!

I visited for three months using the vwp and took my cat over then - we of course didn't realise the wait was going to be quite so long. So I have one American cat and one English cat for the remainder of the year :)

I hope your decision comes very soon - you are nearly there!!! If I can help in anyway with cat travels please get in touch!

I don't know if I'm nearly there since CSC gave NOA2 to Nov/Dec filers and the July/Aug are still waiting and nothing for the Sept/Oct... I'm really under shock!

Unfortunately I have heard bad things re. large animals on Lufthansa - and two friends (one internet, one real) both had dogs die during transit in the last few months. This does happen with every airline now and again but I can't 'unknow' what I know if you get my meaning.
