ok some of you know what went on this week. I got RFE'd.....well, the thing about the rfe that bothers me is the UNEXPECTEdf part. They said his divorce certificate was not original. Habibi told me from day 1 it was original and at the place I spoke to in Ramallah on the day he went to get his papers notarized, the place told me that the divorce certificate even had the stamps already on it so it needed no more attention. They said it was fine.

Tell THAT to yucky immigration!!!:( Wednesday in the midst of me being busy at work, I called immigration twice and spoke to two different people. They said they needed it to be from the courts in Palestine. Well, it was. Where do they think he got it? From a sewer? lol Also in the midst of that, I spoke to my husband and he became frustrated (not at me but he did not understand why immigration was asking him to send another divorce certificate since he gave me the only one he had). I just got al frustrated with him and vented to everyone who was crazy enough to listen or read.

But today I'm feeling down again, dunno why. habibi has been great after Wednesday night's frustrations. He got up early Thursday morning and went and got another divorce certificate and today he went to Ramallah to get stamps for it. (even though if it is original copy from the courts he does not need to but he just wants to do everything like before and make sure....thats just his way to make sure everything is thorough since he knows the ball is in his court now).

But now I worry what if they do not like this one? I do not know why they did not like the other one. The only thing I could come up with was the one he sent was a few years old and he has a box he keeps all of his important documents in it. He folded it up. He keeps it with his passports and our marriage certificate. (Yes, I was so honored to see our marriage certificate in his important box when I went to visit him:)

Well the only thing I can come up with is that wen he dhl's the certificate to me, I will have a lawyer look ata it to make sure. I wish if I could go there and be with him until he is able to comel here but I won't be able to work there most likely and I have a job here to support us. That's actually my only reason for staying here during this process. (Not to mention I do not like the thought of both of us coming back homeless since I won't be able to afford paying rent in my apt and supporting us in Palestine at the same time. But if so help me God they do not like this divorce certificate copy and I get RFE'd again......I am afraid that will be my only option:(

ok thanks for listening. Thank god you were not here to listen to my head as it pounded into the wall:)

Hello paliover! Don't worry you can vent to me. I am wondering why they would say it wasn't valid also with the stamps on it and a judge's signature. Can't they call a certain ministry and check? Or maybe run his national Identification number through and see what it says? I really don't have much advice but I'm here for ya if you need to talk! I hope this one goes well!

Thanks everyone

I was wondering about that too. well, US immigration does not have his Palestinian ID number in files (not by me anyways) although they do have his passport number. Sso if they wanted to, I'm sure they could speak to the Palestinian govt to find out. I just think they don't want to. You know the lazy bastards they are:) I do not know the name of the court that does the divorce. What he gave me is not looking like our marriage certificate. It is all Islamic based and talks about seperating the two and how they decide on this date to end their marriage. But it is signed. (by judge I'm pretty sure). He told me he went to a place equivelent to what our city hall would be to get another one. So we'll see.

I know sometimes you wonder why the stall tactics? I had a friend that was married twice. Her first husband she was divorced from but he was dead. The second she divorced and sent in her divorce papers with her application. She got an RFE because the wanted the divorce paper from the dead husband. She sent it in but made a good point..how could she be married to one man and not divorced by the other. Just stallingggggggggggggg thats whats in my opinion or you have a nit picky immigration officer.

You know it seems like sometimes they just loose it or something and send RFEs out. I have seen stories from people who were asked to send something again although they already sent it. I hope this time it works and it all gets solved quickly (F)

Dear Palilover:

It is totally ok to vent...This process makes you crazy. It's a rollercoaster of emotions and sometimes you feel like you are the only person who is fighting the battle. Not even your husband back home knows what you go through.

I certainly understand your reasoning for staying and working. I am in the same situation as you. I stay only because I know when my husband comes, at least one of us will be bringing home a paycheck in the beginning.

So don't feel badly about venting...Gosh, if this board didn't exist and I hadn't gotten the support from all of you, I'd be in a psych ward by now.

you hit the nmail on the head with that one. That is the most frustrating thing. He can predict my every move and he knows me inside out. he has finished a sentence or explained a feeling I was having even when I had no words to explain myself. Yet when it comes to immigration......nothing but frustration.

I hope these immigration officials sleep well tonight knowing they cause a heap of people around the world headaches on a daily basis, eh?

In fact, right now we are in a funny situation. Ironically my husband has pointed out that the tables are turned. we are still waiting on his palistinian police certificate. The otehr day I told him since you know people why don't you tell them to hurry. I just blurted that out because I know everything in middle east is done by wasta (connections) and since he said he knew someone.....

Habibi, witout skipping a beat says "Now when you call immigration do you tell them to hurry and they listen to you? can you just do that to them?"

LOL I never thought I would say this, but now I am in a position where I am telling him to tell people to hurry whereas for the past nearly a year time period, he has been doing the same to me:)

Dear Palilover,

In this whole process I often felt I was the one who had to jump through all the hoops. Basically, I came back to USA to establish domicile for the immigration process. Thats hard. Finding an aparment, a job....then filing forms and papers....then when I went to see Abbas, I had to find another job when I came back.

While he never had to find a new house, a new job, file forms....His life basically remained the same. The only real hardship he faced was from his employers. They knew he would leave for USA and so basically demoted his job responsibilities (but not his pay).
