Muz’s Visa was granted!!

Our interview was on April 17th at 1:00 p.m. in Vancouver. That morning several hours before, we went over our check list. We put everything in the exact order that the consulate would request it, or so we thought.

After we checked and re checked our paper work, we left our hotel and ate breakfast. Muz became more nervous as 1:00 came closer and closer. I was a bit nervous as well, but hid it as best I could.

We left for the consulate about 12:10. By the time we parked and walked to the consulate it was about 12:35. (note) the day before we did a test run to the consulate just to make sure we knew where we were going. We parked in front of the consulate and walked over to the main door. We asked the guard about remote control built into our car key. He said that it would be fine to bring in. Had we not been aloud, we figured that we would take a taxi.)

We arrived about 12:35. No line at all. We went through the door and came to the first check point. We both had to show our pass ports as well as the appointment letter. We had brought with us a ton of evidence, including 3 albums of photos that Muz had taken weeks to create, cards, phone records, emails, scrap books etc. We had to empty our pockets, and then go through a medal detector.

We then went up a flight of stairs and went through a door. We were then ushered onto an elevator and taken to the 20th floor. When we got off of the elevator, we went threw another check point. The same procedure. We then went threw another door and sat down in a waiting area.

Within a few minutes, we were called to a window. The order in which we had placed our documentation was not in the order in which they requested it. They did not even request half of what we brought. They first asked for my divorce decree from a previous marriage. (They did not need my original marriage certificate), affidavit of support and OF-167 and tax transcripts. (They didn’t ask to see my original birth certificate.) They asked for Muz’s divorce decree and marriage certificate from a previous marriage, ds156 duplicate, ds156k ,birth certificate, medical, police certificates and receipt for payment, $131 I believe? They did not need his xray.

After they collected the paper work, we were told to take a seat in the waiting area and would be called for finger printing around 2:00. We sat there for about an hour. Now I could be wrong about this, but there are two cameras in the waiting area. I believe that we were being observed for the entire hour we were sitting there waiting to be finger printed. I’ll tell you why, in just a sec.

Muz of course loves to talk and laugh. At times it is non stop. lol…He is affectionate by nature. Of course this was displayed as we were sitting there. We appeared to be happy. Because we are!!

Around 2:00 we heard Muz’s name called to window B. We went to window B and there was a nice lady behind the glass. We assumed he was going to be finger printed at that point. The lady had a smile on her face and asked me (the petitioner) how we met. I told her. Then I was asked what I did for a living. Then she asked Muz what he did for a living. After she asked Muz what he did for a living, it hit me. Could this be the interview?

We both thought he was going to be finger printed, and then the interview would take place.

When we both finally realized that the interview had just taken place, Muz cracked a joke and said, you’re going to at least look at our albums aren’t you? She smiled and shrugged her shoulders and said, “if you insist”. She flipped through one page and closed it.

She read aloud as she typed into her computer that we were an extremely, extremely happy couple. I guess they have to type in the findings of the interview and such. Like I said, I believe that we were being observed the entire time we were sitting in the waiting area. So for anyone, interviewing at the Vancouver consulate, or anywhere for that matter….be sure to talk and converse with your SO as you wait in the waiting area. And if I’m totally off base with my theory, so be it. She had no idea that we were an extremely, extremely happy couple just by a 2 minute interview. We were being observed!

After the 2 minute interview, we were told that we needed to go and by a large express post envelope. We left the consulate and went across the street to Canada post. We then went Back to the consulate, went through the same two check points back to the 20th floor. Muz was then finger printed, and we presented the envelope.

Before we left, we were given a copy of Muz’s vaccination record from dr. chanas office. I believe this is the ds 230? For adjustment of status when he gets to the states.

That was it. We received an email yesterday from the consulate. Muz’s visa has been shipped. 

Easy peasy……

congrats !!!

but i wonder... what is the OF-167 ????

Oh my memory is terrible. I beleive it is sort of a continuation of the affidavit of support? It was a form that came with packet 3 for the petitioner. If I remember correctly, I had to write in the address where my fiance would be moving to and sign it.

congrtas. great review

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1
