IT IS NOT NECESSARY TO INCLUDE FORM I-693A IN THE AOS SUBMISSION

You are playing Russian Roulette, and lucky for you there was no bullet in the chamber at the time you fired the gun!

Ok as being in a hurry to beat the fee increases of last July we decided to submit AOS without any mention of form I-693 or medical history etc.

Well Rose have received her Welcome to United States letter in mail.

Prior to receiving the K fiance visa, she had her physical and chest xray, but there were no shots given or review of medical history. The mistery packet surrendered at POE must have sufficed.

So for all you working on AOS read the pinned post at the top of this forum.

It isn't necessary to submit it with the initial AOS application - you do have the option to bring it with you to the interview. There is one circumstance where the vaccination supplement is not required - it is when the Panel Physician writes 'medical/vaccination waiver' on the original vaccination record indicating that everything is completed and up to date. I submitted my AOS without the supplement - but with a copy of the worksheet that clearly stated 'medical/vaccination waiver'. I also did get the vaccination supplement done in case I needed to present it at the interview (instead of getting an RFE at the interview) - however, my file was transferred to California and I was approved without an interview. Generally, you do need to have proof that all of the vaccinations that are mandated have been given - or that you have an immunity caused by having the illness. That is the purpose of the various 'vaccination' documents - proof that the vaccination requirement has been met, not just to have another piece of paper to cause us misery.

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

I don't think it is wise for you to advice that it is not necessary to include the I-693A...first, because it is clearly indicated that you have to include it on the AOS instructions. Second, many people have had problems with the medical and even had to have a second medical before getting approved.

This might be your case, but telling other people to do the same...I say no.

Congratulations on getting your AOS approved

Saludos,

Caro

I'm not telling other filers not to include it. If we had all shot records in hand I surely would include it in the AOS. Main reason for not mentioning was because from where Rose is from shots vaccinations are in state records, and would be nearly impossible to acquire. Also had we hurrily gotten vaccinations, we'd not only be out of $1000, but also extended beyond the 90days visa period maybe by a few weeks.

Then again I can't remember if AOS instructions indicated a vaccination supplement or not. But anyway I read that the most of AOS filers RFEs were due to that I-693A form or need for the original.

I'd give thanks that it didn't pose a problem thus far.

I submitted AOS in late June 2007 and haven't kept current of changes if any since that time.

OK, so you applied for AOS in June 2007 and she is just getting her greencard now? Seems awful long time... I wonder what could have delayed it.

We applied in July 2007 and have had her greencard since November.

Don't forget that some have included only the DS-3025 in lieue of the I-693A and have had no issues either.

THANK you for that link, Darkhorse. It's like knocking your head against a brick wall trying to tell some people that you don't need to submit an I-693a. I'm going to add it to the pinned topic at the top of this forum.

The problem that some people have is that they don't know the difference between "speaking from experience" and "I know it all" ;)

My experience with some people here is, that when you ask for advise, they get mean and nasty with you because you don't always believe everything right away. I don't ask for advise on here anymore because of that. I am at the point where I just try to point out the things that actually happened to me and might help others too. Nuff said

IMHO I would not even risk getting an RFE. I just be happy paying the $25 and getting it done.

A stitch in time saves nine.

Better to have it then not need it.

I know there is more of those , but my brain is too fried from finishing the I 864. :dead: LOL

Your case is different though, Steph. You absolutely need the I-693a because you didn't come in on a K-1 visa from a Consulate which required the vaccinations to be completed.

As said before, sure that is in the guildelines/rules for the AOS app. But you are at the mercy of a single USCIS officer, who may or may not interpret the rules the way they were intended. Many people feel it is much safer to go ahead and get the I-693A, which is easily and cheaply done, than risk getting an officer who doesn't know his stuff and getting an RFE. That is my opinion on this whole argument.

Vaccinations aren't required for K visas but they are required to adjust status. You can submit the I-693a with the I-485 or bring it to the interview but it would be a huge oversight to have AOS approved without an I-693a in the file.

For those embassies that require K-1's to be vaccinated prior, how would that affect filing for AOS?

You just need to take the DS-3025 - which is the vaccination worksheet Priscilla would have got a copy of at the medical - to a civil surgeon in your area and have them transcribe the vaccine record to the I-693A supplement. She does NOT need to have another full medical no matter what they tell you! :)

Based on USCIS Instructions on Competing I-485 I included the I-693A in my AoS application.

8. Fiancé(e)s.

If you are a K-1 fiancé(e) or K-2 dependent who had a medical examination within the past year as required fort he nonimmigrant fiancé(e) visa, you only need to submit a vaccination supplement, not the entire medical report. You may include the vaccination supplement with your adjustment of status application.

I know that statement contradicts itself. It says you need to submit a vaccination supplement, and then it says you may include one in your application. I read that as saying "One is required, you can either submit it with the application, or we'll ask for it later, but it's needed."

Just my opinion on it. I'd rather go ahead and submit it with the application than run the risk of waiting for an interview, and having my medical expire when the interview comes around (the medical you had as a K1 applicant is only good for 1 year).

The medical just needs to be valid at the time of AOS application. They don't make you redo it at the time of approval if it's past a year.
