As it is, Mohamed and Melinda, knowing nothing about how the law is applied in Egypt, haev a worthless piece of paper. There is nothing besides a lawyer's assurance that it is valid. It is untested in court, the only way to know if it conforms withe law as enforcable is to register it and have it evaluated for validity according to the standards of the regional madhab.

This paragraph is completely irrelevant to understanding the discourse - quite simply, VW wants to be right about this particular marriage and one has to ask, why? Why does it matter to her?

I have put you on ignore. No really, I have, but you are still ruining my enjoyment of this site. .

Because I'm Muslim and what people say about Islam matters to me. Why does it matter to you?

This is a discussion about what constitutes a valid marriage in Islam. Unless you have a substantive contribution to make about this subject, you are merely creating drama.

That was a substantive contribution, stick to the arguments and stop picking on one particular marriage to prove your argument, it's not that hard to do.

There is a problem and outsiders can see it very well. Rather than keeping to facts, you keep interjecting references to a particular marriage. That they continue to react to your jibes is regretable because that is the only thing that is keeping steam pouring out of this kettle.

You have very definintly just accused Mohamed of not being an honerable man, that is indefencable if you are trying to educate as apposed to berate.

I wouldn't say one side is innocent though, I think both are talking disrespectfully to each other unfortunately.

I have referenced that the other person should examine why they feel so threatened by an examination of the facts. However, VW has set herself up as the educator, so as such she should realise that to keep referencing this one case to illustrate her arguement is unneccassarily provocotive.

Mohammed and Melinda,

Sarahaziz, S and S, etc were just trying to give friendly advice and calm down the situation. I think what Sarah was aiming at as well was that you need to learn to keep your cool in the US when someone says something to you you don't agree with or even if you feel slandered. Keeping respect is important, and not going into name-calling is also important. Sometimes, if you cannot keep your cool, the mature thing to do is walk away in certain situations. This isn't a life-threatening thing, so you have a lot of options-- a lot more than fighting. It isn't nice to list a lot of things you collected on Sarah either when she is only trying to help you. What does it matter if she wants a Hebrew name? All your prophets have Hebrew-based names translated into Arabic. Arabic doesn't make it Islamic. An Islamic name is made by its meaning or association. Berating her on personal choice is exactly what you are trying to defend yourself against in regards to Virtual Wife. Just breathe and cool down a bit, and maybe take a break. This forum will still be here later if you want to hash it out.

None of my posts have ever been helpful. Be forewarned.

Thank you for your efforts to referee  , but they are not needed. Take from the thread as you wish, and leave the rest. I will ignore you now.

I guess you aren't the critical thinker you set yourself up to be. Too bad, without the unnessessary jabs at a particular marriage you have some interesting perspectives.

The reason I brought up slander is it is a legal thing (although it is not what is occuring here), and if you wished to go after someone legally, being very hot-headed and then throwing personal insults back is NOT going to help your case. At all. Ever. Even though it's what most of us what to do in the heat of the moment! :) I don't know, but I'm reading VW's posts as being very calm and matter-of-fact. Whether one agrees or disagrees with her, she is not losing her cool. Losing one's cool also tends to make them lash out in an unproductive way, so you end up saying things that are either not as organized as you would have liked, or just reactionary. We all do it at times, and it's a lot easier to tell someone to cool off than to cool off yourself... but sometimes it is better to take that advice and then either forget it or reapproach the situation when you're better organized.

Oh, I'm so hurt.

This discussion has been going on for three days. You just got here and you want to not only run it, but you're already joining in on the insults you were just condemning. Didn't take you long to show your true colors. See how easy it is?

Hello All,

I am new here, but I just thought to give you all my opinion. As a Muslim, I have to say that Islam isn't anything like I have been reading on here. I have read through your sources and quotes, but I know that each and every one of us interprets these quotes and sources in many different meanings. I have to even say that among the greatest scholars of Islam they disagreed, but they also respected each other because GOD only knows best.

What matters now isn't who is right and who is wrong. We all lack all the sufficient knowledge about such issue and there are exceptions that just fit every situation. It is up to God to judge us not US judge each other. What matters are your intentions, so keep them to yourselves and God.

Trying to prove one’s wrong isn't going to give us all an answer. It just adds up to the whole drama and makes it worse. Our opinions are mostly based on our experiences and each one of them is different.

That's all folks,

Take a deep breathe and start again fresh with one thing in mind, God only knows best.
