Reason for slowdown at VSC and CSC

I called the USCIS this morning and spoke with a friendly customer service rep, Brian. I asked him if he knew why so few NOA2's were being generated by the CSC and VSC this month. He gave me a quite lengthy and detailed discourse about the operations of the USCIS, such as their primary functions and time frames for completing tasks. He seemed very knowledgeable, which may lend some credibility to his answers.

Basically, he said that starting on April 2nd, the USCIS has been mandated to clear the backlog of name checks. Staff has been pulled from other areas (I assume that means K1 and K3 Visas) to accelerate processing of name checks. I think the CSR's explanation is correct. Looking at Igor's web site, the beginning of April is when NOA2's started to drop off.

So, the big question is when will additional staff be assigned to process K1 and K3 Visas? I asked the CSR if the USCIS was hiring more adjudicators, but he did not know.

Thanks for the investigative work, Steve! It's good to know there are at least people still alive at the CSC...

As BlakeandOhla pointed out in another thread, this slump in NOA2's also occurred about the same time last year. Based on his projections, we are approaching the end of it, and by the end of April - Early May, they bust out TONS of NOA2's and get things back on track. If it is true that this namecheck backlog thing is the cause of so little activity on K1's, then perhaps it is an annual thing, and based on BlakeandOhla's notes, we'll be on our way shortly!

You are right. Strange, yeserday when I looked at Igors stat page it showed the VSC had only a few NOA2's during the past 2 weeks. Maybe I misread it.

I've been on VJ since fall 06. I remember there was a slow down at VSC last year around this time in 07. Jan, Feb (& March) apps were processed very quickly, but then it slowed down around April or so. There was specualtion that it might be related to processing of the H1-B visa, which open for a very limited time, and reach their cap around this time of year. I don't know if thats true, but it might be related.

OK guys, i have to told you I work as IT support. And even its different... it's also pretty similar.

I spend all my days at phone talking with customers.

Telling them that we have delay because of that or that or that...

I mean i spend my days lying!!!!

And I'm pretty sure it's the same thing for a lot of customers care services including USCIS...

I allready lost 2.5 months over some silly s..tt(cause they couldn't determine in what center's jurisdiction we are).

It sucks, but it is what it is...

Hmm this sounds like a very reasonable explanation indeed.. I keep my fingers crossed that this indeed is an anual thing since it occured last year as well and hope for a lot of approvals in a couple of weeks then
