I would hire someone to fly lower over the land and I would sky dive out with all my stuff to follow in individual parachutes.

I would love to fly airplanes. My wife thinks that's a bad idea. I just need a way to convince her...

:ot: my husband flies. I am with your wife on that!

If you were an illegal alien...

...and wanted to cross the border into Canada undetected, how would you do it?

Walk? Cycle? Swim?

Where would you do it? Michigan? Minnesota? North Dakota? Montana?

Obviously you would want to stay clear of immigration checkpoints.

To make it easier, let's assume that you have an accomplice (who is a US citizen

or permanent resident with a valid US driver's license), a car and expensive scuba

diving equipment.

Ideas?

Wouldn't happen, why would you go to Canada?

I haven't read most of the prior posts, but having grew up in Minnesota, a large section of the border between Canada and Minnesota is occupied by the Boundary Waters Canoe Area (BWCA). Unpopulated, dense forest, rivers and lakes. A hunters/fisherman's dream. Go there in the summer and just hike your way to Canadian civilization (pack your camping gear and prepare to portage your canoe).

Wouldn't happen, why would you go to Canada?

I don't understand the question.

an american wouldn't defect

But he/she is an illegal alien, not an American.

Who said an American couldn't be an illegal alien? If a USC crossed the border into Canada illegally, he or she would then, by definition, be an illegal alien.

I would flirt with a really ugly male border crossing agent and get in OR I would send nessa ahead as a distraction and get in that way :)

I think he means an illegal in America. An American is not illegal in America :)

Ah. In that case, yeah... an American wouldn't be an illegal alien.

my idea - a simple 2 step process:

1. invent teletransportation.

2. energize

I don't know that much about the Canadian/US border but I would have thought driving across would be the easiest thing to do. I would imagine much of the border isn't monitored. However, if all the roads are monitored, I guess I'd walk. Swim? Too cold most of the year

there's a town in vermont where the road crossing isn't monitored. i forget what it's called, i read it in the nyt last yr

Beam me up Scotty !

I like the mexican tunnel idea.

It'd be fine and everything... until winter hits and the nice fuzzy grizzlies have a rather roomy cave to hibernate in. But the mere fact that these gentle creatures are not fond of sharing and have a worse bedside manner than Hugh Jackman with a 3-day hangover should not, in any way shape or form, dissuade you from trying.

Many roads, one path. -- XS
