The cat jumped on the bed today... I swear I felt the bed shake a bit... USGS confirms it at 5.2 now. 300 miles south of us in Chicago.

Any concerns about any regional activity? Fears and all aside I think there IS a legend of a big one to hit that area so... check your insurance policies!!

Wishing you ten-fold that which you wish upon all others.

I FEEL THE EARTH MOVE UNDER MY FEET............

First time I got to sleep till 5am all week. I knew something had to wake me up.

Everyone okay? We had some bridge and overpass damage. Minor.

Do you realize TODAY is the anniversary of the 1906 San Francisco Earthquake? How wierd is that. I'm all for commemorating things; but come on............

Life's just a crazy ride on a run away train

You can't go back for what you've missed

So make it count, hold on tight find a way to make it right

You only get one trip

So make it good, make it last 'cause it all flies by so fast

You only get one trip

You are thinking about the New Madrid fault. The last major earthquakes were in 1811/1812 and they completely rerouted the Mississippi River. Here are links to two information sources:

http://quake.ualr.edu/public/nmfz.htm

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_Madrid_Earthquake

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_Madrid_Seismic_Zone

It is actually an area and event that has always fascinated me. The probability of another major quake over 6 happening within the next 20 years is rated at over 90%. The seismic zone covers parts of six U.S. states: Illinois, Indiana, Missouri, Arkansas, Kentucky and Tennessee.

For those who are interested here is a really neat link that shows you where earthquakes have occurred today, yesterday, 2 weeks ago, 30 days ago and then within the last 5 years, as well as how strong they are. We have a very seismically active planet!

Indeed. Homeowners are underinsured in the New Madrid area. Earthquake coverage must be purchased as an endorsement to a normal homeowners policy.

:-) - Sorry, this is the post I was referring to with reference to the New Madrid fault.

 good to bring that up. without it, 0 is covered. with it, 90% is covered.
