I don't think that is true at all. Women certainly don't get better treatment than men in US society.

For most crimes, the gender of the perpetrator has absolutely no relevance. However rape is a very different crime. While I certainly believe that it is possible for a woman to rape a man, and certainly a young man being raped by a woman in a position of authority is all too possible, the consequences of that rape are simply different dependent on if you are male or female.

Even the emotional consequences will be different. That doesn't mean that in the emotional context the male should be able to 'pull themselves together' more easily but the fact is that a male's experience of sex is so very different from a females'. A female is more easily violated by a rape experience. Take into account the nature of virginity (male versus female) and the fact that a female can become pregnant as a result of rape where a male can not it's quite obvious to me that the two experiences are not interchangeable.

As far as sentencing being more lenient with female perpetrators than with males, again I would imagine that the circumstances surrounding each case have a greater say in the severity of sentencing than the gender of the perpetrator.

Actually, gender can be a good indication for crime. For instance, most violent criminal activity is performed by males. Some is certainly conducted by females (and the gender-gap is narrowing every year), but by and large, violent crime is the current domain of men.

What also makes you wonder is how this guy spends six years in prison while all those female teachers that have been caught having sexual relationships with them little boys usually get off the hook quite easily. Bit of a double standard there, it seems.

Mary-Kay LeTourneau didn't get off the hook.

Mary-Kay LeTourneau didn't get off the hook.

That brings up a good point.

I hate to say this, but she wasn't exactly the most... attractive woman in history, was she? I realize that's not a very nice thing to say, but there's a point to my observation. Some other female teachers who had sex with male students who were minors were very, very good looking and did "get off the hook."

Coencidence? Possibly, but more likely it was due to the fact they were considered "hot" and LeTourneau wasn't. Our society tends to prize physical beauty quite a bit -- in fact, we look at it so much, we even make assumptions about someone's personality based on it. If someone is beautiful, we often think they're a nicer or better or smarter person than someone who is "ugly."

So we could theoretically say that male teachers and female teachers who aren't considered "good looking" or "hot" would potentially be in the same boat. It's only if you're a female teacher who's incredibly attractive would be able to coast on through.

I understand. The girl used her position to accuse the teacher while she did have sex because she wanted to. She probably have a personal drama outside her sexual activity with the teacher, and then got pregoed by someone else. Afterwards, the teacher wanted to help by paying for the abortion. The girl was probably confused in her life at that point and decide to do what she thinks is the right thing by putting the teacher in jail. That is my guess.

I must say I agree with you.By no means do I condone what this teacher did but having sex with someone all those times looks consentual to me.

You missed what I meant by that comment. I wasn't trying to asign crime by gender, I was trying to suggest that sentencing wasn't gender biased. I would be very surprised if for robbery for instance, in a like for like crime, a female criminal would get a more leniant sentence than her male counterpart.

Refusing to use the spellchick!

I have put you on ignore. No really, I have, but you are still ruining my enjoyment of this site. .

She's not hot. Just because she's blonde doesn't make her hot. :P

Well you know the definition of "hot" in the USA is blonde  .

BTW: I thought you liked blondes.
