Our interview is Wednesday We are leaving Monday morning for Montreal. We're going to the Biodome on Tuesday and then our interview is Wednesday. I'm excited and nervous all at the same time!

But I have a few last minute questions. I'm trying to get all the documents together. I've read through the list of stuff to take but just want to double check. We won't need my (the US citizen) passport or birth certificate, or our kid's birth certificates--or will we? The list I read said stuff like dh's passport, bc, marriage license, divorce cert, court and police records, etc. But I didn't see any mention of documents for me or the kids. I'm guessing because they already got that in the I130 that we won't need to do it again. Is that right?

Could someone give me an exact list of ALL documents we need to take with us to the interview.

If you are going to accompany him to the interview, you will need your passport. They check it at the door, because he is specifically allowed one USC to accompany him to the interview.

If I were you, if the kids are your kids together, I would take the birth certificates with you. Most likely you will not need it, but if they have any questions you can show them immediately. Things get lost in the mix, and they don't necessarily have all of the documents you sent to USCIS.

In addition to the documents you mention, remember to take some pictures with you, just in case, and any documentation of relationship you have. . .letters, cards, phone records, plane tickets, etc. They don't usually look at them, but it's good to have them just in case.

On the express post mailer that you asked about, it's your choice. . .it just needs to be pre-paid so that they can send it without cost to them, and specifically the size they tell you.

The standard large regional xpresspost mailer will be fine. You do not have to pay extra for signature on delivery. The documents you need to take are outlined in your appointment letter, but if originals have been sent in, you do not need to take them again. I would take your passport and the kids' b/c, just in case. When we went to MTL, we took extra documentation just in case they lost anything. They did lose a few copies of documents (only sworn affidavits, nothing serious) but I had extra copies, so it wasn't anything serious. MTL sent a list of documents to bring and the order they should be kept in (I put post-it notes on each so I could locate them quickly.) Mom and Pop (IR5) were required to bring (in order):appointment letters, their passports, b/c, marriage certificate, divorce/death decree, police certificates, court records, military records, updated evidence of support (current tax extracts and updated I-864), medical examination documents and photos. That's all they required for IR5. We also took the original b/c of my brother (the USC) since we didn't send in the original. Put all this stuff in either a manila envelope, plastic bag or clear plastic accordian folder since they won't allow bags in the consulate. That's it. Keep your appointment letter in a conspicuous place since security personnel will look at it before they let you in. When we went they were allowing electronic key fobs to be checked in but they may have changed the rule since December.

The stuff outlined above is really all you need.

One thing they did ask my Husband for that wasn't sent to NVC - tax return transcripts for 2004 and 2005 (we only sent 2006). The only other thing they asked him about and it could have just been general conversation, was whether or not we were going to transfer our money to a U.S. bank account.

All the advice given so far is great but there is one more thing you need to take, the most important thing is your.....Patience. As long as you remember to be calm and relaxed, everything else will be tres copacetic.

I will be sure to go through that list on the paper they sent then. I was just afraid that they would end up asking for something that wasn't listed there. Maybe I'll at least take it and leave it at the hotel--just in case.

As for the folder to take, I have an accordian style but it's not clear. That won't work? Are they super funny about that stuff?

my accordion binder wasn't clear--was black and I was able to take it in! Just dont bring in any big bags or purses, and NO electronics of ANY kind, including car remotes!! ur going to go through airport like security, so the less metal (including coins) on ya the better.

Wow I guess when Flames9 went they were being really strict. When we went we saw folks with big leather bags and purses, but I wouldn't recommend it. They even took mom's safety pin and checked it. I saw quite a few cellphones, electronic key fobs, etc. All were checked (they have cubby holes and claim checks). If you can get a car door key cut (w/o electronics) then that's advisable or have someone wait in the car. People who had opaque folders, manila envelopes, etc. were asked to empty them and the presidental pen I took was examined very, very closely. Wear nothing of metal and be prepared to take off your shoes. It is indeed like going through airport security only more thorough. Once you get upstairs you can chill.
