nakalimutan ko isali: tinapay or crackers or cookies na isasawsaw sa kape or softdrinks or juice or gatas... I've told Ricky, he has to live with it coz minana ko pa un sa lola ko noh  . my siblings don't do it, my kids don't do it BUT im not giving it up kahit san man ako makarating... ginawa ko nga un even during national conferences with my previous company, sa mga big hotels pa kami nakahouse like: Manila Peninsula, Westin, etc..... of course during breakfast lang kasi la naman isasawsaw sa hotel foods pag lunch and dinner... pero every breakfast buffet, tingin mga co-workers ko, pati other guest sakin. They'd have this grossed out/disgusted look on their faces pero PAKI! that is one thing I would never give up.

ok lng yun dont worry about being grossed out hahaha Paki nila right??? when i get here in the US my appetite turned into worst. before im just "picky", right now, im very super to the max "picky"... i dont like any sauces on top of my food (esp. pag hindi asian)... every thing has to be separated. from the rice to the meat to the vegy and pls pls pls put the sauce separately (they always have a hard time dealing w/ me) napaka egnoy ko dito but i dont care either. im the one whose eating eat not them... i tried that bread dipping in a coffee/soft drinks/hot choco too hahaha... they also do that in the states i saw my husband does it so we're not alone. oh yea they love the meat "raw or tender rare"... too much bloody and pink and they mock at me coz i want it well done (no pink no blood) regardless if its gona taste like "rubber" as they say lol...

all i can say, You Go Girl! heheheh

God bless!!!

Good thing my husband likes dipping his crackers (we call it biscuit in Pinas but here in US there is another pastry that they call biscuit) and cookies either to water, hot chocolate or milk (milk chocolate). He does not get surprised whenever I dip my bread into my coffee. Although he thinks it's weird to dip french fries to Wendy's frosty (milk chocolate shake) - take note, it needs to be Wendy's, otherwise I won't enjoy it as much. It took some time before he has gotten used to it.:blush::blush: And he knows that that combination is my favorite thing in the world. Fries + Frosty = Happy Mae! Yay!

Now Myla, you just made my mouth water. :crying: I like it that way too but if there's shrimp paste (bagoong), I'd be a happy camper. I fixed "ginataang laing" (taro leaves in coconut milk) just the other day and my husband couldn't look at it because it looked "yucky" and reminded him of "something else". I told him that it's a feast back at home whenever my dad would cook taro leaves with snails and coconut milk. Even though he didn't say that he's grossed out, I had to throw it away because he's losing his appetite just looking at it.

Here's the list of the dishes that I have been experimenting here at home:

1. Sisig (husband felt yucky when he learned I put pig's ear on it)

2. Pancit canton (not the instant one)

3. Pancit bihon (not the instant one)

4. Champorado (chocolate rice poridge)

5. Taro leaves with shrimp in coconut milk

6. Chicken in coconut milk

7. Chicken-pork adobo

8. Sardines omelette (love it, love it)

9. Pritong dilis with ginisang kamatis (fried anchovies sauteed in tomatoes) - YUM!

10. Tortang talong (eggplant torte)

Didn't think I could cook but I guess if you're missing them, you don't have a choice but experiment. So far, so good!

I love the biscuit and gravy as long as the gravy has crumbled sausage in it. That's my husband's favorite too.

Good for you, Pattu! Also, try Fijian and Pakistani food. India and Fiji cross culturally. And their spices and herbs taste so yummy, minus the colored additives.

Mmm, sounds interesting!! I lived in Hawaii so am familiar with the Polynesian foods - I wonder if there is such a thing as breadfruit curry??? :) In the summer especially I like to go hang out on Liberty Ave. in Richmond Hill, Queens(Little Guyana) - Guyanese food is sooooo good!! There is one restaurant I go to and I get a huge plate of dal roti with aloo and chana with a ginger beer for $5 - I could eat it every day but then I would weigh a ton and Govi would not be happy, LOL :D

Sorry for hi-jacking the thread, can't help it :P I was able to try Hawaiian salad dressing and omg..to die for!! They have a very distinct taste and one of my faves is the papaya mixture. I haven't tried Guyanese food, I'd definitely give it a try if I get the chance. I love roti's, I was able to try at least 4 different types. You're so right, if we keep on indulging, we'll be in BIG trouble. I'm not sure about the breadfruit curry but sounds yummy.
