Packet III: reply before actually having all docs?

Hey, all,

We got Packet III recently and there's form OF-169 in it that needs to be returned to the embassy by mail of fax. The form says something to the effect of: "I have assembled all the required documents and am requesting an interview". I think most consulates have some version of that form but it may be called diffferently-- so please read even if your form was named something else.

Now the thing is that one of the required documents takes a while to obtain and requires two trips to the capital city (to order and, in a few days, to pick up). So the dilemma is: send OF-169 immediately and take care of that missing document while waiting for the interview or take the instructions literally and wait with replying to Packet III untill we actually have all of the documents physically?

It is annoying because the interview won't take place in less than a few weeks from now and they won't even schedule it until they receive form OF-169. So it looks like getting the document first and sending OF-169 second introduces a meaningless delay. On the other hand, if we go that route, my fiancee will put her signature under something saying that she has all of the documents, while in reality she doesn't. So I'm afraid that could be treated as giving misleading information.

Has anyone faced this question? How have you resolved it and to what effect?

Thank you and best regards!

Many do send back OF-169 before having all documents gathered, if you now that you can get the things requested in a very short time, then yes you can send the OF-169 back to the consulate.

OUR TIME LINE Please do a timeline it helps us all, thanks.

Is now a US Citizen immigration completed Jan 12, 2012.

You can always send back the forms to the Consulate without having all your documents ready for the interview if you are sure that you will have the document that you're missing, within let's say a couple of weeks. However, some Consulates take longer than others to schedule an appointment after you have turned in your forms.

I sent in the forms before I had all my documents ready and the Consulate scheduled an interview appointment promptly after. However, my document has not arrived yet and I had to write to the Consulate to get them to reschedule for me.... They replied "Not a problem, we will slot an appointment whenever you have gathered all your documents"

So... no worries. :star:

Thanks for your replies, everyone!

An update: we decided that waiting an extra week won't kill us. So we will send the OF-169 after we have ordered the missing document. I'm almost sure we're over-reacting but signing something that we know isn't true at the time of signing just doesn't sound right.

Best of luck to all, whatever paths you take!
