No worries. I get it all confused all the time too. I was just getting worried there for a second cause I haven't ever seen anything in regards to residency requirements.

JG..what are the residency requirements if a USC wants the dual citizenship?

Doesn't seem to be any...still searching for some clear answers though...

The residency thing was actually naturalization through working in JA. I think that is where I was going with that thinking.

Can anyone find a set price in US$$ for the citizenship by marriage. All I can find is 7,000JA. What if it fluctuates? Just the amount of the day you buy the international money order? That is kind of confusing to me.

I am assuming this is what you are going off of right?

Citizenship by Marriage

Requirements are:

Certified copy of Birth Certificate and Passport of the Jamaican National

Certified copy of Birth Certificate and Passport of the applicant (spouse)

Certified copy of Marriage Certificate

Recent ( at most 6 months old) Police Record of the Applicant

Two (2) Passport sized photographs of the Applicant

Completed Application R1 Form ( obtainable at the Consulate)

Letter to the Minister of National Security and Justice requesting registration as a Citizen of Jamaica.

Fee of J$7,000.00 or US$ equivalent to be submitted in the form of international money order addressed to the following:

Permanent Secretary

Ministry of National Security

12 Ocean Boulevard, Kingston, Jamaica

http://www.congenjamaica-ny.org/citizenshi...20by%20Marriage

The way I read it would be whatever the equivalent would be that day. So if it flucuated and was lower you would be screwed. That hardly seems fair but it does seem to be the way it reads.

You would almost be better off having the money order originate in JA funds so there could be no confusion with exchange.

I wonder what the Letter to the Minister of National Security and Justice requesting registration as a Citizen of Jamaica would entail...

How would you do that with the money order?

I would think the letter should just state who you are, why you want to be a citizen, and why you are eligible. Plus, say all the blah, blah, blah.....enclosed, please find a whole bunch of paperwork backing this up.

One side note here, be careful of the pictures............

Renewing a Jamaican passport from the US has required the only people I know to do this to go to either SEARS or THE PICTURE PEOPLE to get the passport size pictures. They have not been willing to take them from, say, Walgreens.

This would be exactly the same thing.

As for the whole money order thing...if I was stateside I would transfer the funds down there and have someone go to the bank in JA and get the money order in JA funds. Seems to be the only way feasible.

Is there something different with an international money order versus a regular money order? Like if I got an IMO here in the states could I pay for it that day in US funds but have the money order made into JA funds? Not sure...

I'm not sure either. But, I know the post office sells international money orders in JA funds.

The problem with doing what you said, is there is all kinds of paperwork that has to go in with it. Mailing it down to them, sending money for the MO, waiting for them to go get it, and hoping they send it all in together. That is a whole lot of responsibility I wouldn't trust to anyone I could get to do it in JA.

Oh I was just thinking of them getting the MO and sending it back to me. I wouldn't trust all my information back and forth in the mail like that
