He's been here for less than two months. I think you just need to give it more time and he'll find something eventually. I know it's tough, but a lot of nonimmigrants struggle to find work too. I don't doubt that you'll find discrimination at work in some places, but you never know what's really going on. Hang in there!

I agree. It took me, an American Citizen by birth, 4 months to find a job last time I was looking.

My husband must've gone on 50 interviews before he found a job that fit him. He's been there about a year and 3 months now.

Just hang in there.

Life's just a crazy ride on a run away train

You can't go back for what you've missed

So make it count, hold on tight find a way to make it right

You only get one trip

So make it good, make it last 'cause it all flies by so fast

You only get one trip

My husband did all the networking for his job at the local mosque. The men there took him under their wing and he made a few friends who hounded others until they found him something. It's worth a try

يَايُّهَا الَّذِينَ ءامَنُوا اسْتَعِينُوا بِالصَّبْرِ وَالصَّلَوةِ اِنَّ اللَّهَ مَعَ الصَّبِرِينَ

It's definitely worth a try, and if networking doesn't cut it at first him being enrolled in english classes something to put on a resume or something to back him up. Maybe he can be a translator they make good money depending how many assignments they want to take on. Go to an on the training job when he has all his legal papers. I can't imagine what it's like to start all over in a new country I hope he finds something good. The mosque was a really good idea in my opinion. Muslims are always willing to help a brother out.

Oh gosh I can't believe I'd bring this up and I hope it doesn't come to it but construction working (if you know what I mean)

My dad joked about my husband comming here and dropping him off at a gas station to work with other construction workers looking for under the table pay and telling us to pick him up at night. It was hilarious. No offense to anybody !!! It was just funny thinking about my spouse doing that cuz he's nuts.

Hey even I have trouble finding work right now that is acceptable. My last job hunt took me four months. Hold tight cuz in this economy right now with all the layoffs it's going to be a bumpy ride.

I know every state is different but do you think yours has something like a career center? I found this http://www.massresources.org/pages.cfm?con...yes#description and it led me to a career center that is in the next town from me. It offers a bunch of free things and often employers will come in and recruit on the spot. They coach you with your resume, cover letter and interviews and some people are eligible for free training in various things like computer programming, webpage set up, etc. My husband is going tomorrow to sign up just to get prepared for when he can finally apply for something.

He's had about 3 offers under the table so far just from people he's met but that's illegal so we don't talk about that here....plus he'd have needed a car which he doesn't have so that was that. :)

Can he work at somewhere like Costco or Trader Joe's? We have lots of foreigners working at both places and also

at restaurants in downtown San Francisco?

If he really wants to work?

Or does it have to be a special job in his field?

Do you mean this for me or for the OP?

The original poster..........opps.

If you love me, then I have everything I need

The work-climate in Middle East is different than Stateside.

I suggest, instead of spinning your (their) wheels with something that won't net anything - to shoot for a bottom-rung job that's in their specific industry if possible. EX - I'm a "computer scientist" by name ... I guess (fancy title for "I play with computers a lot - and took a whole buttload of university classes to prove it.) If I were in dire straits, I'd look for a computer helpdesk job.

I could pick my toenails while answering questions :P

Then try to weasel my way up ( oh boy, quite easily I assume ) or - at the least - make some loot while I look for better - and keeping my skills ... somewhat sharpened ... ( er, if I could consider helpdesking ... requiring any skill. )

It was hard for Ramy to get a job here, especially in his field. He's not working as a pharmacist...or even a pharmacy tech...but he is at least working in a small town pharmacy as a clerk, and the pharmacy is run by another Arab so he got lucky.

But even THAT place wouldn't hire him till he had the tangible EAD and not the stamp in his passport.

CVS and Rite Aid won't even touch him, not even as a pharmacy tech.

And I'm still looking for work, though I'm having a second interview with the post office tomorrow! I'm this close to kissing Walmart's feet, just to get SOMETHING.

Divorced. To hell with him.

I agree.......finding a good job in certain fields is hard these days........jobs are scarce and the competition is fierce.......even for us with years of experience and degrees from US universities.

Water, I know it's easier said than done but try not to let your husband get depressed over it........he's only really started looking. Tell him to keep at it and sooner or later something will come up.
