:crying: :crying: :crying: :crying:

I start to wonder if it's discrimanation, bad luck or the economy. My husband is well educated and speaks english well, though he has an accent. He is on a week trial at a job not in his field , but the women is upset he has a accent because she dosen't want people to think she is outsourcing... ####### who would think that calling a small office...

I feel so sad today he has such a hard time finding a job it's really sad to think it may not work out.... My heart breaks for him. When he has applied in his field it has not been fruitful. Is it cause he's new? the economy? Has anyone else struggled like this..

I know he wants to work more than anything.........

He's been here for less than two months. I think you just need to give it more time and he'll find something eventually. I know it's tough, but a lot of nonimmigrants struggle to find work too. I don't doubt that you'll find discrimination at work in some places, but you never know what's really going on. Hang in there!

A lot of the problem is bad economy paired with lack of American work history. I think that gets a lot of MENA (and probably other) immigrants. Another issue can be discrimination. What that woman said is just not right. Ammar has yet to find somehting in his field, but it's hard to do even for an American and takes, on average, several years for one of us to finally get into it.

None of my posts have ever been helpful. Be forewarned.

I really don't think it's because he's Arab. It's most likely because he has no prior work experience in the country. My husband is experiencing the same problem. He's had a to take a job way out of his field for the time being. I can't tell you the number of resumes he's sent out and ppl he's contacted in order to find a job in his field.

I know every state is different but do you think yours has something like a career center? I found this http://www.massresources.org/pages.cfm?con...yes#description and it led me to a career center that is in the next town from me. It offers a bunch of free things and often employers will come in and recruit on the spot. They coach you with your resume, cover letter and interviews and some people are eligible for free training in various things like computer programming, webpage set up, etc. My husband is going tomorrow to sign up just to get prepared for when he can finally apply for something.

He's had about 3 offers under the table so far just from people he's met but that's illegal so we don't talk about that here....plus he'd have needed a car which he doesn't have so that was that. :)

My husband has 10 professional jobs waiting for him before hes even here, because of "networking" do you think your parents, uncles, or close friends, siblings would help him get jobs? My father has contacts everywhere we just got an offer from his best friend who works for BMW the pay is excellent. I would all in all recommend networking. Goodluck!

Can he work at somewhere like Costco or Trader Joe's? We have lots of foreigners working at both places and also

at restaurants in downtown San Francisco?

If he really wants to work?

Or does it have to be a special job in his field?

If you love me, then I have everything I need

I am sorry to hear about the struggle your husband is facing finding work.

Unfortunately, new immigrants do face a lot of hurdles in finding work.

The foreign accent should not be an issue as long as your husband is not in a position where public speaking is required of his job. I think this is a thinly vieled Xenophobia on behalf of the supervisor.

If you live is conservative, small town or city, your husband may have a harder time finding a job. Usually big cities with larger immigrant populations are more welcoming to new comers.

If your husband has a profession that is marketable, he should go to a head hunter.

Do you mean this for me or for the OP?

yes I fear that my baby will have a hard time finding work. I hope I can convince him to go to school first because an American degree on his resume will do wonders to help him with employment.
