Come to Chicago for the best pizza, thin or thick crust.

Palermo's on 63rd (off Pulaski) is quite possibly the best pizza in the whole world.

I've been there. We ordered a delivery pizza while in Kiev and it was quite good. No rabbits though!!!

Few rabbits and squirrels in my yard; the dog takes care of that.

Alla is totally fascinated with and is dying to see the wild deer that run across the road. She is also terrified of the wild "wolves" (coyotes) that also run around. She doesn't know how people can walk in the woods or go camping when there are wolves about. I tell her that children in America are trained to fight the coytoes with their bare hands so it is not a concern!!!

Phil (Lockport, near Chicago) and Alla (Lobnya, near Moscow)

As of Dec 7, 2009, now Zero miles apart (literally)!

I never went pizza tasting in Chicago, and now I probably can't (unless the pizzas come with fish on them and a side of soup). Wick's here in Louisville is not to be missed, if ever you are in town.

It's very entertaining to read about your guy's experiences and lives with your Russian spouses!

While I'm not yet in the same boat (working on getting the K-1 out), I still have many of the same or new stories.

God forbid I yawn while I'm talking to Anna. "Bored? I'm boring? You want don't want to talk to me?" I now have to hide if I need to yawn.

If I sneeze. "What's wrong with your health? You have bad health! You need more sleep!"

Got her hooked on the "hard stuff" when I left Russia. She turned to the Coke because it reminded her of me... now she drinks 3 a day. She thought it had too burned too bad when she 1st tried it.

Freaked out when I put ice cubes in my BOILING HOT tea so I could drink it. Poured it out and refilled it with BOILING HOT tea while I was in the bathroom... proceeded to cook my lips when I got back. "You don't put ice in tea!" I just burnt the ####### out of my mouth! "don't put ice in tea" ...

Ice in anything will give you a cold.

American website advice is "sh*t", "I trust Russian-fiance.com". I have to work overtime to convince her that what most people say here is legit. "Sure my love, 15.. no, at least 30 people said the same exact thing! really!"

Don't whistle indoors. She'd told me that one time when I was in Russia. Then her and her mom caught me whistling in her parents house, I thought her mom was going to sh*t bricks. "What I say! Don't do it!"

She does this, I'll call it spittling, if she thinks something she said jinxed her. Like if she says "My driving is perfect", then she'll catch herself and kind of spit "You have to get those words out of your mouth, so you spit them out".

I look forward to many many more of these situations!

Calling an illegal alien an "undocumented immigrant" is like calling a drug dealer an "unlicensedregistered pharmacist". (because somebody gives a damn)

And don't forget that whenever you're telling a story like, "he was in a car crash and it cut off his arm from here down" while pointing to your own arm, you have to wipe it off and blow it away (and doing the three spits - "phtoooey, ptoooooey, ptoooooooey!" should probably be done too. Adding a "fooooooo" doesn't hurt either.)

Don't worry, there are many more episodes like this coming your way. Since there is nothing you can do about it, I suggest you have a drink - and a laugh - and enjoy it! We wouldn't have it any other way :D Welcome to the club!

And don't forget that when you hear fu! twice to immediately inquire about the problem (assuming it isn't obvious already). If you don't take an interest - you will also be fu.

Have fun with that website (RF). 50% of the advice on there is legit, the other 50% is utter nonsense and bordering on psychotic.... seriously go read it someday u will be mortified.

Tanya thinks it will make us poor. I tend to think that trips to the Mall will accomplish this faster but I am just an American man and know little about economics...

Agreed! I started going there a week ago and noticed a lot of them are a little... I'll just agree with Anna's latest opinion of them, "so stupid". Unless it's news she wants to read or hear, it's stupid. And when I laugh at her (because she's freaking adorable when she gets pissed off) then I'm also stupid.

50% is giving RF too much credit, I think. I had to undo *so* much damage (misconceptions really) from the advice given there, that eventually I just had to say "trust me" when it came down to my research vs hers.

Common FSU belief that whistling will "whistle all your money away." (Something about whistling indicates that you're being so care free that all your money will be gone too.)

I used to think my pet name was doooorak. Sometimes now though I'm able to claim the name shto, as in, "durak, ili shto?"

My wife is constantly complaining about me being on VJ...... well, all the way up until she realizes that every single piece of paperwork has been approved without a hitch. When I suggested things like RF or other sites she pretty much said, "that's your job." Glad she did.

Seriously though, if she doesn't follow it already, don't mention it. There's not only a lot of bad information there, but also a lot of gossip and sob stories that may unnecessarily freak her out.
