They have the wrong answer for salt; salt is sodium + chloride, not chlorine :bonk:

Chloride isn't an element.

No, it is a negatively-charged ion of chlorine. Salt is made from the ion.

Didn't the question ask which two elements make up table salt?

No, it didn't mention elements. It is worded, "Common table salt is a chemical compound of..."

#6 is actually incorrect. the right answer is 5/4 - convert to the lowest common denominator:

3/4 + 1/2 = 3/4 + 2/4, which is 5/4

The answer the quiz accepts is 10/8, which reduces to 5/4, so it is correct even if it is not the most standard expression.

Trivia questions do not rate comparable intelligence level.

So if you don't get all 10 correct, that doesn't make you dumber than a 5th grader. If that's what they're currently studying, they're much more likely to still retain it than those of us who last studied any of it 10-50 years ago.

They have the wrong answer for salt; salt is sodium + chloride, not chlorine :bonk:

I answered chlorine because my dad was telling us this weekend that his company is now only installing inground pools that are saltwater because when it goes through the filter they use it turns into chlorine. I'm sure that's not the full explaination but all he had time for in the minutes as we were trying to get into our car and come home.

I just found this about the saltwater pools

Saltwater pools use dissolved salt (3,000-6,000 ppm) as a store for the chlorination system. The chlorinator uses electrolysis to break down the salt (NaCl) and release the chlorine into the water. The main advantage of this is that the main chemical added to the pool is salt which is harmless compared to the usual bleaching agents like chlorine. As such, a saltwater pool is not actually chlorine-free; it simply utilizes a chlorine generator instead of direct addition of chlorine. When chlorine levels are low in the pool, your salinity level is down, you increase chlorine levels by adding more salt into the pool.
