Medical exam in Calgary

Ok, just thought I'd post for anyone getting a medical in Calgary in the near future. Hummingbird clinic is a bit tricky to find if you don't know where it is, and it's all a little strange as it's actually a spa!

Weird!

Imagine getting poked and prodded for your medical while others in the waiting room are queued up for botox and acid peel treatments. I will say that the pan flute music was pretty relaxing though.

For anyone trying to find the place in the future, it's directly opposite from the gas station in the sirocco strip mall. Sirroco strip mall is on the other side of the street from where the Sunterra market is. The medical office is not marked and you actually have to walk right into hummingbird spa to check in for your appointment. So weird.

Anyway, the only shot I needed to being me up to date was teatnus and I got that from the doctor while I was there and boy does it hurt. Feels like someone punched me hard in the arm. Ouch.

Oh well, doc said that I could pick up my sealed envalope in three days and then I'm good to go for the interview. Fewf, thank goodness that's over.

Oh yeah, I forgot that you actually have to drive to two other locations for the bloodwork and the chest x-ray. Be prepared to wait an hour or two in the waiting room at the blood lab. Though the x-ray lab was super quick, I was in and out in 20 min.

Aw- sorry your shot was painful. I didn't have a problem with my Tetanus shot last year but I did have an antibiotic shot a few months ago that hurt- it felt like hot fire was going into me.

Also- here in the US when I went to the Civil Surgeon to get my immunization sheet done- it was at a Laser/Dermatologist clinic. I thought it was strange.

That's interesting! I wonder why a family doctor does not provide this service. You think it would be a lucrative business.

When I went for my Medical in Edmonton it was an old house that was converted into a Doctors office- I thought that was a little weird too- not the norm for Alberta.

I am curious to know how Civil Surgeons get picked.

Sorry your shot hurt! Thanks for your review of your medical. Looks like most Albertains, and maybe Saskatchewanians will be getting their medicals done here. I'm sure no one is picked that doesn't apply. I'm also sure that there will be a "call" out to Canadian doctors now as well to fill the vacancies in other communities. Well at least we hope so!

Thanks for the info! I'll be going there in the next 2-3 months & have no clue around Calgary...probably a good thing I'm not driving! lol

I found the MMR vaccine hurt far worse than the Tetanus.

Everyone is different though.

I thought the spa-doctor office combo was really odd too, but when I mentioned it to my coworker (whose husband is a chiropractor) she said that is pretty typical for medical offices whose main specialty is cosmetic, as Dr Viljoen's is.

I was lucky and had the MMR when I was a kid so couldn't remeber if it hurt or not. I'm glad the medical is over too! one last thing to think about. I'm rooting for you Laura, you are getting close and I wish you the very best and that your timing all falls into place with your interview and the rest of you plans!
