congratulations and hopefully the last step will be as fast!!!

anyone have a good estimate of how long it usually takes to get to the interview? i am hoping 3-4 months at the most, but i know with the government things are not always that easy sometimes.

Well, being as you got approved in 63 days, I'm guessing both of you will be snug as a bug in the U.S. within about 45 days. At the interview, they will ask your fiancee about 3 questions, one of which is "What is your name?", before handing her the pink slip. Then they will say come back later this afternoon to pick up the visa.

Now, if your approval had taken 163 days, then it would be an additional 4-6 months of waiting. When you finally got an interview date, they would keep your fiancee in there for an hour and ask her the exact dimensions of the mole on your lower left back. Of course, she would give the reply in millimeters when they wanted inches, resulting in the blue slip and an additional 3 months of administrative review. After all that, and with pink slip in her hand, they would tell her to come back after 3 weeks and maybe they might have the visa for her, even though they knew she had a plane ticket for departure in 2 weeks.

And that's how it works, as far as I can tell, so don't worry, you've got it made. Congratulations on the approval.

P.S. You can look at all our timelines under "Immigration Timelines" at the top of the screen. You also have the ability to show only Vietnamese K-1 timelines (maybe K-3s are in there too, I don't remember).

I know it seems like that!!!!

From what I've been able to figure, It usually takes 5-7 business days for NVC to figure out to send it to HCMC. then it takes HCMC about a month to process it and send out the Packet 3. If you're ready for the Packet 3 and personally take to HCMC the checklist letter, DS-230 and DS2001 ASAP, ie the next day, you can speed things up a bit. After they recieve your documents, the Packet 4 is sent in 2-3 weeks with an appointment date about 6-8 weeks from the date they sent it.

If you're lucky, it will be less than 3 months time from NOA2 to interview. Most seem to be 3-4 months. Now is a good time to prepare for everything that may come up at the interview.

Good Luck.

You of course realize, though it is often difficult to tell such things in print, that I wrote all of the above with tongue planted firmly in cheek. Don't listen to me. Listen to Peter.

Don't forget to get tax transcripts, mentioned elsewhere on this forum, in addition to your returns. Very easy. Call (800) 829-1040, and follow the menu. They will send them out quickly free of charge.

You are only required to have the current year tax records, they prefer tax transcripts as Melrose Plant mentioned. If you have more than the poverty guidelines for income for your family size, you don't have to supply any other financial info unless you want to. You will need a letter from your employer stating whether your job is permanment or not, when you started to work, how much you make or if you are self employed, your business license.

Your fiancee will need to get several things. There's posts here listing that and it's in the Packet 3 letter she will get. Also have her put all the evidence in order so it's easy understand. For an example of that, there's a post of mine you can look at that's about timelines.

While the Consulate may not look at any of it at the interview, having it will give her confidence and if needed it will be ready and handy so she won't get a blue slip asking for more evidence or information.

She will need your signed notarized I-134 at the interview and employment letter or business license. Your tax returns need to be complete with W2s, all schedules, etc. Also don't forget she needs to have your original birth certificate and a copy at her interview.

I am kinda new to this form stuff myself and your post have been a god send. I am leaving for Siagon on Friday April 18 for my second trip. I got a lawyer up front and I have sent everything my my 2 front teeth in my packet is seems. The support form, 3 years tax returns, a letter of intent to marry, the letter from my employer, the Bio form for both of us, copies of my passport, copies of plane tickets, copies of recipts from my first trip, some photos, and of course the I 129. This trip will be for the engaugement party and more photos and another set of plane tickets for her interview. My question is where are these post you reffer to in this post? And what would you reccommend we get done on this trip if anything? Our packet was recieved on March 10 2008 and of course now we wait. It is California and it looks like a 6 month back log from what I can tell. I do have one concern. Xuan was born 1979 and record keeping during that time was less then robust. She does not have her birth certificiate and I know it will be important at the interview. She does have a valid passport and another question I have is can we just go to the hospital or the "court house" if that exhist there and get a copy? Any thoughts on that.

Again thanks for all you post. They help very much
