Letter of intent for interview

Hi,

A couple of questions concerning the letter of intent to be brought to the interview:

1- Is it the same kind of letter of intent as the one that was provided when submitting petition I-129F? Does it have to be as detailed (with description of how we met, etc.) or is the short example provided in the "Example Forms" section of this site enough?

2 - Is a letter only required from the US Citizen or does the beneficiary also need to write one?

3 - Does it need to be notarized?

1. We submitted pretty much the same letter of intent at the interview as we did in the petition. I had called and spoken to someone in the Vancouver office prior to the interview, and they stated that it was fine for the letter to be the same or similar, just needed to be current. We kept it short and sweet, stating our intent to marry. We did not provide a lot of details.

2. We (myself and then-fiance) both submitted letters.

3. I cannot remember exactly, but do not think we had it notarized. Hopefully someone else will come along who can answer that question though.

All my husband(fiancee at the time) did..was a write a letter that said basicly.. he is free and willing and intending to marry me..just a **To whom it may concern**..lol no..it didn't need to be notorized..its kind of silly if you ask me..anyone could be writing it..just keep it simple..thats my advice

basically the same one, just showing you still have the same intent and plans, doesnt have to be notorized, we both did one

O.k. dumb question, But the checklist I got from Vancouver does not say anything about a letter of intent (or maybe I just missed it) Where is that requirement from again?

It's not actually on the official check list. It's just something that has been suggested and people do.

At my Vancouver interview two weeks ago, they didn't ask for the letter of intent.

I think this whole intent letter business springs from the DS156K. It has a list of evidence to attach. One of the required evidences is evidence of engagement. Some people use the letter as evidence. I did not submit a letter of intent with the I-129f and we were not asked for one at the interview. We did have other evidence of engagement (wedding invitation, engagement ring receipt, wedding cake order, chapel rental agreement) but the only thing the CO asked was to see the engagement ring and was satisfied.

I don't remember seeing that a letter of intent was necessary for the interview in the paperwork I got. Maybe, it depends the consulate? I did see, however, a form whereby my fiancee would have to sign affirming that she will not marry before she enters the U.S. No form for me though.
