The first round of reactions from early screenings of this summer's highly-anticpated blockbuster Iron Man are bubbling up online --- and so far, the man (Robert Downey Jr. as billionaire Tony Stark) and the titular tricked-out exoskeleton appear to be living up to the hype.

Fanboys and girls are raving the film is on par, if not better than the film's big screen comic book peers Spiderman 3, X-Men trilogy and Batman Begins.

[Warning: While there are NO spoilers excerpted here, some of the linked reviews DO have elaborate plot info. Click through at your own risk.]

Variety has excerpted some on the glowing feedback from the first screenings, held in Mexico and Australia:

"I can report the movie is terrific. It is a thinking person's superhero film with more character development than special effects and action scenes ... [Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark] is terrific...funny, smart and charming...and very buff."

And for those of you busy poring over each clip, production still and leaked tidbit, there should still be some surprises in store. Ain't it Cool News, which has an extensive [and spoiler-rich] selection of reviews, posted this one from user Vyruzz:

To my relief, they hadnt shown ALL the good stuff in the trailers ... It's a perfect adaptaion from the comicbooks and for you hardcore
Iron
Man
fans.

Iron Man flies into theaters May 2.

I'm looking forward to seeing this. I've been a fan of Iron Man since the 1980s when he used his Silver Centurian Armor, although I think my favorite was the War Machine Armor. The final armored suit Tony Stark uses in the movie is based off the Extremis Armor (which as far as I know, is the most current version).

I wonder what they've changed from the comics, aside from some of the origin -- which makes sense, considering Iron Man was created in 1963. It makes more sense to have Stark get captured and wounded in Iraq, rather than Vietnam.

But when we turn to the Hebrew literature, we do not find such jokes about the donkey. Rather the animal is known for its strength and its loyalty to its master (Genesis 49:14; Numbers 22:30).

They got the right guy for the part then! I was just thinking about him the other day. His performance in Less Than Zero was outstanding. Who knew he wasn't acting!? I wonder if he's still clean? Hasn't been in the news lately for anything bad.

The great part is that if he gets completely drunk and needs to go to AA or rehab, he can always say he's "doing research" for his character! :P
