Man did they unpack ur luggage at the POE?

Hi all

I read post by Ammike about her luggage being unpacked in Hongkong. Is that common?? That was a horrible treatment. I am just wondering if they will ask u to get ur luggage and unpack em in the POE. Anyone??

TSA will do this only if they suspect that contraband is in the baggage, they can also do this without your knowledge anyway after you check your bags. I have had on several occasions had bags checked by TSA either before checking them, or after, when they do check them they will leave a note in the bag that they inspected the bag.

In Jamaica, they do a thorough search of baggage, checked and unchecked, right in front of you before you can even check in with the airline.

I have also had mine looked at once it went through check in at Atlanta, I didnt know till I got home to the uk when i found the note they put in.

On our last return from the Philippines, we got sent to secondary in Detroit and had all 6 large checked bags (2 each + 2 excess) checked completely. I was beginning to worry about missing our connection.

I had my luggage checked several times already. Sometimes in front of me @ check in with the airline and sometimes I opened my suitcase at home and found a a paper that told me that they inspected the suitcase.

I think, that is standart procedure and I don't mind it. If they would go through my stuff though and make a huge mess and tear things up, I would be super pissy!!

It doesn't have anything to do with whether or not they suspect 'contraband'.

They have a quota of bags that must be spot checked daily. Tag, and you might be it.

When going back to OZ or NZ I usually get in the line "something to declare" (its usually quicker). I have been searched once when I brought back some grits they did not know what they were.

On leaving OZ, my complete baggage hasnt been searched but they have used the wand looking thing on boxes (poking into them) to check for bomb stuff.
