The main reason workers are late for work - allegedly - is traffic.

A survey from CareerBuilder .com found that 32 percent of respondents blamed traffic. The second-most-common reason, given by 17 percent, was falling back asleep. Other reasons were long commutes, getting kids ready or feeling sick.

Fifteen percent of workers say they are late at least once a week and fortunately for them, 43 percent of hiring managers say they don't mind tardy employees who produce quality work on time.

The majority of the 2,757 hiring managers surveyed said they believe their employees' reasons for being late. About 27 percent were skeptical.

Other excuses included: "Someone stole all my daffodils," "The line was too long at Starbucks," "I was trying to get my gun back from police" and "I was indicted for securities fraud this morning."

Harris Interactive conducted the online survey.

I can't imagine trying to come up with an excuse every time I was a little late. I'm glad my boss is not like that.

Our in-time is flexible to a point, but recently our boss told us in company meeting that 11am is the absolute latest to be in and that he'll consider docking people pay who show up even 5 minutes after 11.
