Visitor's visa to USA

A few years ago my friend was engaged to a man in Peru. He applied twice for a visitor visa and was denied both times. So, Peru seems to be one of those countries. I guess Mexico would be an obvious one, too. Let me throw some more out there. For which would it be almost impossible for your average Joe and Jane from another country to get a visitor's visa? Here's some places off the top of my head:

Ecuador

Argentina

Colombia

Chille

Philipines

Russia

Morocco

Egypt

Algeria

India

Croatia

Poland

Turkey

Hungary

Romania

Ukraine

Bangladesh

China

Japan

Vietnam

Korea

Believe it or not, Greeks used to have hard time getting visas. It was one of two EU countries that weren't part of the VWP. I don't know if that is still true.

I think there are a lot of countries from which it is hard to get a visa. In fact, any country that is not part of the VWP it is usually difficult to get a visa. And the way they treat applicants is humiliating. It's enough to make a person hate the US.

AOS Timeline

6/30/10 - Interview: 10:30 (Day 77) APPROVED!!!

I would say pretty much any country in Africa, MENA and Asia.

I happen to know a lot of Ethiopians that have been granted visitor visas. I also know many that tried and haven't been so lucky. At the end of the day, it's the folks that have gotten visitor visas and abused them that got their fellow countrymen and -women into the tight spot of not being able to secure one.

A lot of people from India get visitor visas and a lot get denied. All attempts to determine patterns in the approvals or denials have proven futile.

I did not know that. In which of the other countries that I listed is there a more than a remote chance? For what citizens is it pretty much impossible?

Also, I didn't even list Ethiopia but thanks for mentioning it, Mr. Big Dog. I would not have guessed a citizen of Ethiopia would have a chance.

The title of this topic is "Visitor's visa" - which is hard to get in countries all around the world.

The K1 visa is pretty easy to get in comparison to tourist visas.

My husband's K1 visa was quite easy to get, but he NEVER would have been approved a tourist visa - that's what people mean.

im surprised with japan considering they're the only first-world in asia (last time i heard)... in my country regardless if you're rich or not, its still hard to get a visa (i believe only 10% is being approved as a tourist visa everyday)... my aunt and my cousin (mother and daughter) applied for a visa 6 yrs ago and they got approved... now her comes my grandma and my other cousin (who's a son of my aunt who got approved 6 yrs ago), they both applied for a visa last year together, guess what? my grandma got approved (not because she's got a huge land and property but because she's a senior citizen and they're somewhat "kind" when it comes to senior citizen), on the other hand my cousin whose parents got a huge land and property also, got denied coz for one he's single and he's young... a big possibility that he might get married in the US or work or for whatever reason the embassy would think about him of doing... while his younger brother is already a GC holder even if he's not in the US yet knowing he's still a minor... a very confusing and chaotic law lol...

Citizenship N-400

4/15/2010- sent my N-400 via fedex overnight

4/16/2010- signed and delivered

4/29/2010- check cleared
