My fiance's POE was Atlanta therefore he was unable to obtain the work authorization stamp. This is proving to be a problem since the SSA in California will not process the SS # application without the A# that is stamped on the I-94. Anyone else in California or another state having these issues whose POE did not provide the work authorization stamp. Any information would be appreciated. Have provided the SSA with all the information provided on website to confirm that Fiance is eligible for the SS# however they are claiming that they are unable to imput his information without the A#. Any advice or information would be appreciated. Thanks again for all your help.

To second that last post, the A# should be on in his passport on the visa....at least that is where my husband's is. He didn't receive work authorization at his POE and he received his SSN with no problems. They did as for his A# though, but like I said, you can find it in his passport.

The machine readable immigrant visa shows the alien's identification number (“A” number) as the “Registration Number” in the upper right-hand corner of the MRIV, but all K visa are non immigrant.

If a document has both an A# and an I-94 #, they are supposed to use the A#, but if the document only has the I-94#, then use the I-94# to verify status. The only thing I can figure is that they are familiar with a K-1's I-94 and are claiming it's not valid without the A#. Otherwise, you just use the I-94# to verify status.
