Hello All,

Is there really only ONE place to apply for a police certificate? The place on oxford rd, in some town (maybe kingston) that I can't remember? My husband needs to get his ASAP, but he lives clear on the opposite side of the island, and works so he won't be able to get there til next Tuesday. He'll order it for 3 day service but, he won't be able to get back there in 3 days cause he works. So then he'll have to wait til the week following next week to pick up and then he still has to mail it to me. This has now become about a 3 week process. Am I missing something or is this my only option?

That is the only place you can get a police record. Here is the website: http://www.mns.org.jm/ApplyingforPoliceRec...79/Default.aspx

My husband lives in St.Elizabeth but has a sister who lived in Kingston. So he went down there to apply for it but had his sister go and pick it up and mail it to him. He said that you can have someone pick it up for you as long as they have the receipt and a letter stating that you give them permission to pick up the records because of so and so...but let the officers know that you are planning to have someone else come down to pick it up...Does your husband know anyone who can do him that favor??

Yes his mom, and friends live in Kingston. So maybe he can get one of them to pick it up. I still think he won't be able to get it from her til he goes down there the following week. I never trust the mail system there. Maybe I can have his mom send it to me after she picks it up? I think this is our best option. I'll ask him if he trusts anyone with this type of favor.

Can he ask someone to pick it up for him? My girlfriend did hers and sent her mom to pick it up. They could probably mail it to you instead of waiting for him to come pick it up and mail it to you.

Ok well I just spoke to him and he said he was hearing about this same day service they may hae now. Some folks in town were talking about it just starting up recently. He's going to a local police station to ask about that option. I'll let you guys know. If anyone wants to ask their SO or family about this service too that would be great.

My husband was telling me that they have a same day one but its a hookup...my husband said he don't think its legal though...he said when he went to go to pay the bill for the PC the taxi man (you pay for the PC somewhere else before you apply for the PC) told him that he has a friend who works in the police station who can give him the PC the same day but he would have to pay JA3,000 more to get it...he said the taxi man told him it would be about a 4hr wait...He also told me that when a lady went to the place to get her PC she ask one of the officer if she can get a same day and the police officer told her the fastest one is the three day one...so only if you know someone they will give you the hookup for extra $$$...since your hubby is doing it to come up here I wouldn't advise for him to do it that way...Try to see if his mom can mail it to you once she picks it up...that will be the safest way...don't want to take any chances at this point...

Thanks for that! Definitley dont want to get it illegally. I'll tell him to just apply for it next week, and maybe his mom can express it to me.

Thanks

I wanted to say the same thing Jay. My fiance's friend got caught up that way. But he realized something was wrong with the certificate before his interview. Same thing with the non-impiedment form. The form cost about $5500/JA, but someone told my fiance that he could get it for $2500/JA and get it the same day. I told him I would ring his neck if he didn't go straight to the RGD office.

I have a question about the police record...my husband received the police record that his sister sent him after she picked it up for him...so he was telling me that all it is is the passport pic he gave them on it, with his passport id#, and full name...and thats it...it had some other small details too like it said "To NVC" and something else...and he said its a small but wide piece of paper...I wasn't expecting that...I thought it would have been a record of where he lived and show his address and stuff....is this right???.... ...All that for just a piece of paper with like no info....

Not sure what they are supposed to look like - But I would think no info would be a good thing - Info on it could be problems, lol!

Yes, I agree. It does not look official at all. Just a white piece of paper with the person's picture with the police seal over the picture. What you paid for is for them to search for any convictions etc. and then they give you the paper to say you have nothing on file.

Marlita your husband has to go the Oxford Road in New Kingston to pay for the police certificate ($1,000 4 wks or $2,000 3 days) He needs to take with hime 2 passport size photo plus his passport. then he has to go to Duke Street in Down town Kingston to get his fingerprints done. If he has a relative in Kingston he can ask that person to pick up the Police report for him.

good luck
