I-134 - sufficient income

Hey y'all,

just a quick question for my understanding: my fiancee does not have sufficient income to be my sponsor (actually, she's in college and does not have any income). That's why we have her mom sponsor me.

However, on the I-134, you have to state who is dependent on you, which in her mom's case is my fiancee and her sister, who both still live at home. This makes a household size of 3, which to my understanding would require an income of at least 22,000 + 3,600 (for me) = $25,600 for her mom.

Is that correct ? If so, is this the income BEFORE or AFTER taxes ?

Regards,

Daniel

For 4 people I come up with $26,500 (21,200 times 125%). http://aspe.hhs.gov/poverty/08poverty.shtml

The income is Gross or Total income before you take out any taxes/social security/insurance/investments etc. You are a little short - Good Luck

If you're a little short your fiance's mother can also show proof of any assets she has and since it's so close, hopefully that'll make up the difference. She can use her house, stocks, or just pure savings. Instructions on the Affidavit form tell you how much extra this has to be - I *think* it's 3 times the amount of however much you're short.

Oh, her income is not short - it's way above 40k. In my initial post, I just calculated the minimum she would need.

So no problems here?

The mother's income is sufficient to be the cosponsor. Remember, your fiancee will also need to provide an I-134 even if it shows no income.
