The Republicans have a slim to none chance of winning back the WH this November, and they can all thank that yahoo who's in office right now for that.

You keep saying it hoping it will come true Steve. Reality is something quite different.

The Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll for Friday shows John McCain with a very slight advantage over Barack Obama, 47% to 44%. In a match-up with Hillary Clinton, McCain attracts 48% of the vote while Clinton earns 42% (see recent daily results). Daily tracking results are updated daily at 9:30 a.m. Eastern Time. Rasmussen Markets data shows that Democrats are given a 59.2% chance of winning the White House this year. State polls released yesterday for Ohio, New Mexico, Alaska, and Montana provide doses of good and bad news for both parties. New general election polling data will be released at noon Eastern for Pennsylvania and Louisiana.

The current status of the Obama-Clinton competition is clearly having an impact on the general election numbers. In a McCain-Obama match-up, thirty percent (30%) of Democrats say they will not vote for Obama. This includes 10% who say they will vote for a third party candidate or are currently undecided. The number of Republicans who will not currently vote for McCain against Obama is 16%. If Clinton is the Democratic nominee, 27% of Democrats say they will not vote for her while the slippage for McCain is 13%. If all of these wayward partisans returned home, the Democratic candidates would enjoy a net bounce of several points.

Do we really want a Junior Senator in the White House who has built his campaign on promises of change but never clearly defines it other than to say that America is heading in the wrong direction and he can unite us? Sounds like candidate Bush in 2000. Universal health care will never be a reality because as a nation we cant afford it. Nancy Pelosi was supposed to change the way congress does business too.

Those polls are pretty useless at this point, Gary - you know that. They'll be more relevant after the both of Conventions. In the meantime, a relevant poll shows Bush's approval rating at 28 percent...all time low. 72 percent of the country is telling McCain they want change and he's telling them he's going to give them more of the same. If it walks like a duck...

What do you all make of John McCain taking a politically brave and principled stand against GWB regarding the use of torture?

I thought he recanted that?

I don't think so.

He had more political cojones during that episode than Obama (or Clinton) has shown in his entire career. Regardless of what you think of his politics or where he stands on the issues, suggesting he's fellating Bush (or whatever that ####### is supposed to represent) is a little unfair, IMO.

The election will be a process of choosing the least negative and with regard to McCain, he would be the biggest negative.

As much as you want to think McCain is Bush Jr he isn't. Your tying all your hopes on the idea that since you don't like Bush others will not like McCain. The polls say a much different story. People know who McCain is. It isn't to early for them to have an opinion of him. Your just engaging in wishfull thinking or maybe hiding your head in the sand.

Apparently, his balls belong to the Right Wing of the party...

Earlier today, ThinkProgress noted that Sen. John McCain (R-AZ), a former prisoner of war, has spoken strongly in favor of implementing the Army Field Manual standard. When confronted today with the decision of whether to stick with his conscience or cave to the right wing, McCain chose to ditch his principles and instead vote to preserve waterboarding:

Mr. McCain, a former prisoner of war, has consistently voiced opposition to waterboarding and other methods that critics say is a form torture. But the Republicans, confident of a White House veto, did not mount the challenge. Mr. McCain voted "no" on Wednesday afternoon.

Nope. McCain is the least distastefull of the three. And there are a lot of others that share my opinion.

I don't think it will matter in the end, or at least not very much. This kind of move appeals to Democrats/Independents, but at the same time, he has been doing things that would also turn away those same people.

He is between a rock and a hard place. He needs signficant support from two important groups to win. However, if he does something or takes an endorsement favorable to one group, he risks alienating the other group.

Show me where they are different, Gary? And please...not little tidbits. They are essentially selling the same snake oil and American public wants our money back.

You don't like McCain so your projecting your dislike onto the rest of America. Nice. I am not going to get into dueling links with you again because there is no point in it. You don't like him, fine, don't like him then. I really don't care. But to say he doesn't have a chance isn't true. With the way the dems are self destructing McCain could very well have a cake walk into the WH. If you want to continue your self delusions feel free. Saying does not make it so.
