Pets are trainable, fairly cheap to raise, don't talk back, and you can beat them. Why did I have kids again??????

Life's just a crazy ride on a run away train

You can't go back for what you've missed

So make it count, hold on tight find a way to make it right

You only get one trip

So make it good, make it last 'cause it all flies by so fast

You only get one trip

I will never love animals more or better than my kids. Kids are special and future of our world.

Actually, judging by the average attitude of children today, our world would be better if ruled by cats. ;)

preferably lolcats :D

ontopic tho: I don't think anyone should compare a dog, cat or whatever to a human being... They are called animals because they are and, imho, people should keep it like that. I love animals a lot but they are still animals and will never be able to replace any kid for me.

I once watched a woman come out of a Dairy Queen with two blizzards and an ice cream on a cone.

She walked to the car, handed the blizzard to her husband and fed the ice cream to the dog. I was surprised the dog didn't get to sit in the front, while hubby had to sit in the back seat...

I have both child and my little dog. The difference between children and pets, children leave and go away. Pets also don't talk back to you, and go through the teen years. Of course my daughter is very important to me, always, but so is my little doggie. Now that my oldest is off in college, I am thinking, while waiting for grandkids, which I am going to spoil and send them home, I will spoil my pets.

Animals are family members, without a doubt. Do I prefer children to animals? Nope, I'd rather have more cats than another child.

Do I dress up my pets? Not a chance. If animals were supposed to wear clothes they wouldn't have fur coats to keep them warm. I think dressing up animals is cruel and disrespectful, personally.

100% how I feel. My cats ARE family members. I consider it my responsibilty to care for them for their entire life and can't understand people who so easily give up pets. If you have to give it up, you shouldn't have had it in the first place. hey are great companions and provide a huge amount of enjoyment to hubster and I. I love my kitties. If I were to have children, which is NOT gonig to happen, I'd still have the same feelings for my animals. Yes of course it would be a different kind of relationship than with a human, but still very important.

I would never dress my animals up in goofy clothes. I think that is rediculous. I may have put a bonnet on my cat once.....but then again I was 7 or 8 at the time.

I like animals but I would never rank them higher or even place them on the same level as children. And, as has been pointed out, they cannot really be equated. I certainly don't think animals should be treated as children.

While tales of people mistreating animals makes me sad, and while I love having a cat to pet on my knee while watching a film, or love taking the dogs for a walk, I don't get overly attached to animals. I think that's just being the daughter of a vet, though, and having grandparents who've had hundreds of animals (they rescue/foster a considerable number).

Could an animal replace any of my children??

No freakin' way.

I consider out cats part of the family, not only animals. I don't think they replace kids, it's a different kind of love.

I've had a dog most of my adult life. The last one died at eighteen, 3 years ago. (His mother was my dog before him.) I also had a cat that died of old age last year. (The cat was probably about 20, I had her 17 years) .

I haven't gotten another pet and, in a way, I really feel free. I had become accustomed to the responsibility and time that goes into pets. But, now that I don't have it, I realize just how much of an investment it was. I probably won't get another. I'm an animal lover, but retired as a caretaker.

Li is an immaculate housekeeper. I've seen her clean the floor more than once a day. (It didn't look dirty to me.) Chinese custom dictates removing your shoes at the door. Asking her to put up with a dog or a cat would be unfair: She wouldn't lower her standards, she would just work harder.

My grandmother once told me when I was living alone with my dog: "Don't let your pet replace having people in your life." She said that the people who do that are the saddest of all. I took her advice: I've never anthropomorphized my pets.

Can pets really replace kids in a relationship?

There comes a time in every couples relationship when they want a little more in life -- something to fill the void. fancy cars, exuberant material objects and world travel aside, there are few things that can fill that chasm better than a baby... or a puppy.

Pets in particular cats and dogs, are often purchased as surrogate children by couples who aren't quite ready or willing to commit to an actual human being. But instead of treating their pet like an animal, it becomes their child, complete with silly outfits, parental doting, and excessive pictures shown at every social gathering.Do you consider your pet to be an animal or a family member? Should animals be treated like children? Can you really replace having a child with buying a pet?

Replace? I think that is like asking can a friend replace a husband in your life. Can a friend be as supportive and as loving and as well-loved, etc. as a husband? I think yes. Can a friend replace your husband? Well, if the answer is yes, we are getting into another topic.

I think an animal can be just as fulfilling to a couple who has no children. Are children and animals equal? No.

Example, if my daughter went missing, I would never give up hope of finding her. I would not rest until I knew what happened to her or until I died. Whatever came first. I would spend every penny and every waking moment working to find her. I would be devastated to the point that I don't know where I would find the strength to go on living, but I would find it somewhere until I knew for sure that she was dead, and then I might just die myself.

When my cat, who I had raised from about 10 days old (guessing because he still wouldn't "void without stimulation" as my vet sister put it -- i.e. I had to rub his little ####### with a warm rag to get him to pee) and whom I brought with me from Greece to China at great cost and a lot of trouble went missing a couple of months ago, I cried for days and still cry about it on occasion, but it didn't take over my life.
