I dont know whether this helps, but I went to the national express east coast railway website and seeing as you said 'next week' I just randomly put in thursday next week. On there its coming up that theres a train that leaves at 11.00 from London Kings Cross for £46.75.

Not ideal I know but it maybe an alternative that you may want to consider. Just throwing it out there so you have more options available.

It may be a testament to London's transport woes, but I think Londoners just love debating the fastest way to get somewhere

If it isn't the weather, it's talking about the London Underground delays. We love it!

In June I'm going over to the UK and will go on all of the tube lines. I'll be sure to report back what was working, what was delayed and how many times I got stuck in a tunnel. :P

Weather, transport and property prices - no London pub conversation is complete without then.

Be sure to also report on the best route from Hampstead Heath to Peckham :D

Will do! :D

I'll start taking orders from people. Tell me where you'd like me to travel to and from and I'll see what I can do. :P

have you ever seen The London Game? it's pretty much that... the board is a map of the Underground, and you draw cards and have to visit a set of places, and the winner is whoever gets everywhere the quickest :)

there are added hazards when you can block tube lines and delay your opponents ;)

I remember playing it with my uncle in Australia back when I was about five or six... I was FASCINATED by the map, and by all the places (the cards have line drawings, and these twee little descriptions; they're ace :D ), and I think it was one of the first things that made me determined to visit London :)

you can get a modernised version, but I had to have the original seventies version, so I searched on eBay and got it for a tenner :)

The Very Secret Diary of Legolas Son of Weenus - by Cassandra Claire

Day One: Went to Council of Elrond. Was prettiest person there. Agreed to follow some tiny little man to Mordor to throw ring into volcano. Very important mission - gold ring so tacky.

Day Six: Far too dark in Mines of Moria to brush hair properly. Am very afraid I am developing a tangle.

Orcs so silly.

Still the prettiest.

Day 35: Boromir dead. Very messy death, most unnecessary. Did get kissed by Aragorn as he expired. Does a guy have to get shot full of arrows around here to get any action? Boromir definitely not prettier than me. Cannot understand it. Am feeling a pout coming on.

Frodo off to Mordor with Sam. Tiny little men caring about each other, rather cute really.

Am quite sure Gimli fancies me. So unfair. He is waist height, so can see advantages there, but chunky braids and big helmet most off-putting. Foresee dark times ahead, very dark times.

I would strongly recommend Heathrow Express to Paddington then cab to Victoria then Gatwick Express.

Problem is that Customs & Immigration and baggage claim (for immigration) can take ages at Heathrow. Your friend will be cutting it close to make that connection

Alternatively, fly BA/BMI to Inverness from Heathrow (Expedia has fares - connect in Edinburgh)

I found return flights for around $500 ( ) which is pretty expensive

Can your friend rebook a later flight from Gatwick or an earlier flight into Heathrow????
