Where I work they just implemented a change where everyone in IT has to log everything they do in 15-minute blocks. Ugh!

8:00am - 8:15am :: Filled in initial activity log

8:15 - 8:30 :: Filled in second activity log

8:30 - 8:45 :: Filled in third activity log

8:45 - 9:00 :: Turned in resignation and burned building to the ground.

Did he take your stapler too?

The trick with IT jobs now is to leave the direct user and server support and go into areas where you do far less work, but get big money, such as project management, LMS systems, training, consolidation services, management streamlining, or attach your IT knowledge to areas such as HR, accounting, legal, or other work.

When you have to be hands on you do 90% or more of the work and get paid and treated like #######.

NO...the trick is to find a good ,decent company to work for .

I would not stay one day in a place where they will ask me to write down what I did every 15' This is something I hear for the first time

That's why I burned down the building.

That and the damn TPS report cover-sheets.

"I said no salt! NO SALT!"

Lady, people aren't chocolates. Do you know what they are mostly? Bastards. ####### coated bastards with ####### filling. But I don't find them half as annoying as I find naive bobble-headed optimists who walk around vomiting sunshine.

I did IT for 8 years before switching back to GIS/CADD. I augmented my income by fixing employee's home computers for cookies, gift certificates, etc.. I would never work for a company that had a manager that insisted on documenting time spent on 15 minute intervals either. Do companies hire CIOs with any practical experience?
