Agreed, the whole thing is really confusing. And there's lots of opinions on VJ about what is right, legal, etc. We might ask for the stamp for the heck of it but we don't plan on Scott working until at least 2 or 3 months into his living here. I also think it's less hassle.

I'm not a fan of dressing up either! So if I wear something "nice" it would be like a summery skirt if it's hot that day. But I don't think it's going to be hot in just 6 days!

Don't go too crazy. ;) You are in the home stretch. It's like we ran a marathon and our bodies are just dying to fall over and stop running but we're so close to the finish line that really, if you think about it, it's pretty awesome. I liked your analogy too. ;)

This weather is so crazy!! You're right, it most likely won't be too warm in 6 days. Around here (WI) it's supposed to get back to low 70's by the weekend so possibly it'll at least be nice out. Right now it's like fall again...40's!! And yesterday it was in the 80's.

I'm really not going too crazy. Seems like moment to moment my emotions change though. One moment I feel so relaxed & relieved to finally be counting down the days and at others it's unbearable to have to wait even another minute before I leave. I feel I have everything organized and then the next minute I want to review all my papers just to make sure. Perhaps I am crazy and just in denial, hmmm.

friends, having a lawyer can be more confusing than going DIY

what does your packet 4 say about getting the visa?

does it mention dhl fees to get it back?

am I suppose to bring an envelloppe with my address on it?

Effective Jan 1/07, Montreal mails the visas out. You will need to take a 314mm x 394mm Xpresspost, pre-paid, signature required envelope with you to the interview. Address it to yourself. Most have received the envelope back within 2 business days HOWEVER, be prepared to wait at least a week. Some VJ members have waited for 7+ business days! Best advice - write down the tracking number so you can check it via the Canada Post website.

That's from the Montreal embassy info on VJ. I'm the USC, but I do believe packet 4 says to bring that xpresspost envelope as well. That's how you get the visa.

Lawyers seem to... not be up to date ... not well informed on embassy specifics ... and sometimes seem to confuse the different types of visas!! I'm sure it's pretty hard to keep up with all things immigration, but sheesh with how expensive they are... I've also heard other lawyers say that immigration law is the most complex type of law to practice.

You can also purchase the envelope at the consulate on your interview day.

The visa fee (not sure if that is the same as dhl fee) is $131 US.

Oh, *that* dhl! Ugh, I HATE them. They *always* lose things / don't deliver them / hate me otherwise / etc. :( I thought I read it was Canada's ExpressPost mail, but honestly, I have no idea if such a thing exists under that name or if they do use DHL or what. Dangit. Now I feel ever worse about it getting lost in the mail. :( Why can't they use FedEx like normal people? :ranting:

I haven't ever seen the actual P4 letter since I'm the USC so I really don't know what it says.

Ok so I checked and its like CBR said, you can bring your envelope OR you can use your credit card to pay 6.99 for regional delivery or 10 something for national delivery.

they dont take responsability for lost passport/visas so they advise that you do that "signature required" thing for the envelope

also they say that the next-day delivery can only be understood as next-day AFTER they're done processing it.

Thanks for this info. :)

Do you happen to know if that means that the signature required thing is something you can take care of whether you bring your own envelope or buy it from them?

if you buy it from them it will be signature required

I think they say that for if you buy your own at the post office

It seemed more like an advice than anything "required", so that the passport/visa doesnt get lost in the mail or left in your mailbox and then, I dont know, stolen...

Oh I definitely plan to do it and think it's good advice; I just wasn't sure if it could only be done one way or the other. This is good, as I plan to just get mine there.

Thanks. :)

Not to be a Debbie Downer, but I could've sworn I've read on here that someone went and they were out of ExpressPost Envelopes when they went.

I would probably buy one in advance because I'm ####### like that, even if my theory wasn't true.
