mc2000ch,

According to your timeline, you arrived in US Feb.22 - applying for the SS-card 3 days later (in almost all cases) is too soon - they (The SSA office) should have told you that. The reason (unless something has dramatically changed recently) is that it takes about 2 weeks, once you arrive in the US, to show up in their computer system.

Typically - it seems to take 2-4 weeks to get the card. (Of course some get it faster while others it takes a bit longer...) Did they look you up in their system when you applied? Did you apply for it in your maiden name?

I assume your mean SSN application. SSI is Supplemental Security Income, which is a benefit paid to low income people over age 65 and low income disabled adults and children.

Waiting for 7 weeks is kinda too long.

On the SSN receipt, it states "If you do not receive your Social Security card within 2 weeks, please let us know. You may call, write or visit any Social Security office. If you visit an office, please bring this receipt with you."

So I think you'd better contact SSA to see what's going on!! Good Luck!!
