I can understand people panicking before the interview.. The only thing to do is be prepared.. Do your homework and practice the interview questions.. Think of all the possible worst scenarios and have documentary evidence to back all your answers..

About the engagement ceremony, All the USC Petitioners need to make sure that they write a letter stating that they did not have an engagement ceremony so if the question does come up at the interview, the beneficiary has written evidence... All the best to all the people going for their interviews in the future in India.. Don't let a few bad stories get you down... There is always a way to get around any problem.. Just keep your cool and preferably - YOUR USC SPOUSE/FIANCE with you for the interview :lol:

DanielParul, CarolynRitesh and everybody: I found consulate questions are confusing everybody about engagement ceremony. I had an engagement ceremony but not the Hindu Wedding in July last year. I submitted those engagment photos. I have prepared my fiancee to explain that Hindu Bengali marriage rituals are very different, and we have done nothing of that. We just had a little party to let everybody know that we are going to be married.

How am I going to explain them if they force my fiancee to sign a stupid letter?

My traditional hindu wedding will be in a temple in USA and I haved asked temple to give me a letter stating that.

Also, I have asked my fiancee's father to write a notarized letter to consulate that our marriage rituals will be performed in USA?

Could you suggest what else can I do at this stage. Her interview in on May 12th.

Hi Bengalilover!

In addition to your FIL writing about the future wedding plans, ask him to include information about the ENGAGEMENT ceremony that he attended/planned/paid for, etc. for you and his daughter. :) Quoting the date of the ceremony, etc. and listing the names of those in attendance for the ENGAGEMENT (with their signatures under a statement about that ceremony being an engagement party and NOT a wedding)...

If you can't be there with her at the interview, make sure she is prepared for these types of questions and that she is fully ready to stand her ground and NOT sign her name to anything that is NOT the truth. Do your best to prepare her for everything about the steps at the Embassy/Consulate (where will the interview be??) so that she feels confident from the very beginning...

Stay calm yourself, and have the names, faxes, emails, phone numbers of your Congressmen, etc. ready and waiting just in case so that you can bombard them with information as soon as possible in case anything goes wrong. (Just being fully prepared always makes me calmer!) ;) Ask your spouse to pay close attention to everything that happens/is said in the interview so that you can all keep your information/facts straight when taking any next steps.

Good luck with the process, keep us posted on how everything goes!

Thanks CarolynRitesh. I greatly appreciate your reponse.

We have got a letter from priest stating that he performed only engagement ceremony and he didn't perform any Hindu bengali ritual of marriage. I am trying to get signature from all the people who attended ceremony but time is short.

We have to submit to VFS this week and her interview is on May 12, Mumbai.

I would greatly appreciate any other thought you may have,
