Why do rich people give themselves so much credit for being rich?

Some people deserve credit. Bill Gates and Warren Buffett weren't always rich -

you don't think they should be proud of their accomplishments?

At the same time, someone like Paris Hilton shouldn't give herself too much credit.

They could be just as good... at Scranton salaries. If that's all they can get.

This is really a boondoggle for the rich. Except you rich people don't see it. I thought were smarter than this!

There's a difference between being proud of one's accomplishments and having the misguided notion that you only have yourself to thank for them, and that the only difference between you and someone who has less money than you is some hard work.

It's not a misguided notion. Hard work is the difference between a successful person and a loser.

(Intellectual capacity plays a major role as well - you can't fix stupid.)

You don't think that's a gross oversimplification?

*shrug* I just totally disagree.

I agree to some extent with the intellectual capacity bit, however I think it's often difficult to separate intellectual capacity and level of education.

I guess millionaires in NYC could reasonably expect that it is possible that they, their children or their servants might possibly use public transportation.

But they probably will never use federally funded projects in the Heartland that they are expected to pay for through a much federal higher tax base that is drained away from their local area, thanks to New York being a donor state.

Maybe they should ask for federal money? I mean, they've certainly paid for it already.

Or having the right connections.

There are a lot of stupid people with good jobs because of who Daddy is.

Not really. Of course, if you have an IQ of a rock, no amount of hard work will help.

You're absolutely right - but we're not talking about them - they really have nothing to be proud of.

Silver and the Assembly ... have already approved a less than 1% increase in the state income tax for all residents with incomes of more than $1 million a year. That "millionaires tax" could generate an astounding $1.4 billion a year - half of it earmarked for mass transit capital improvements.

That's far more money than congestion pricing could produce. It would require no new surveillance cameras and no slew of new fines and penalties for motorists.

Yes, well, I'd pay a lot more not to have ANY surveillance cameras.
