The festival season is coming up soon! Can't wait.....

Same here in Chicago...loads of fests in the summer....including all of the "fake" ethnic ones...:lol:

I'll have to remember though when, for instance, the city throws the Puerto Rico Day parade and fest, that's the celebrants are really just all gringas/gringos (?) looking for an excuse to have Puerto Rican beer...........

I love the fake ethnic festivals hahahahaha....it's still something fun to do....even if it is only an excuse to drink beer.

Chi town.....will you be heading out to Navy Pier?

I haven't hit too many of their festivals but maybe this summer I will take the train with Lu and check it out.

Thank you MP for researching Octoberfest and restoring it's blemished name!!! :D:yes:
She only confirmed what I said. That the Oktoberfest is a Munich tradition. Munich is the capital of Bavaria and Bavaria is not really Germany. The bubble is still busted.
Oh Reinhard, you Bavarian hater you!!! :P

At least the Bavarian Brewmasters know how to make good bier!!!

wasn't hitler from bavaria? :whistle::lol:

 Austria.

i knew that was just trying to joke with aggie...

Peace to All creatures great and small............................................

But when we turn to the Hebrew literature, we do not find such jokes about the donkey. Rather the animal is known for its strength and its loyalty to its master (Genesis 49:14; Numbers 22:30).

I've heard taste of Chicago but have no idea what it actually is.....and where?

FEF's....yeah.....not meant to be totally authentic....just a celebration! There are hints of authenticity and they are at least a way to also bring the world in a little closer.....even if it is totally Americanized hahahaha.

Take a deep breath because it's going to get worse.....what gets me is when I mention to somebody that Spanish is my first language, they're like "really...but you're black":huh:

I've heard taste of Chicago but have no idea what it actually is.....and where?

Taste of Chicago - The City of Chicago welcomes the 26th annual Taste of Chicago June 30 - July 9, 2006. Each day more than 60 local restaurateurs offer a delicious combination of ethnic items, family favorites, exotic and Chicago specialties feeding more than 3 million people in Grant Park, in downtown Chicago.

There are also lots of bands, stuff to buy and do and see while you are there. It's outside, running primarily down one street for several blocks. If you can't find something to eat at Taste of Chicago, it's your own fault...hehehehe.

Have wanted to go to Summerfest, but never have made it up there yet.

Thanks Frances! This sounds like fun. Lu's parents will be in town that weekend for the wedding and I was contemplating things to do. It would be awesome if they had some Peruvian food there....hmmm.....

Summerfest is fun....typical midwest festival.....tons of people, beer and food. Lots of great music (for free) and comedy as well.

That's ok - around THanksgiving, more than one person asked what Stewart was doing for Thanksgiving...(he was still in Oz at the time...)

Oi.

People make me laugh sometimes

someone at work just asked if Lucia was going to be celebrating cinco de Mayo......

not sure if I should laugh or cry......I've got a lot to look forward too

Wow - that's terrible! I have to admit that my last trip to Peru I was just taken back a little bit when some of the lovely black girls started in with the Spanish. I wouldn't be as bad as what you mentioned above for sure, but I must admit it was a little weird for me for like a second.

Oooh Merc, what date is the wedding???? :D:D:D

As for "the Taste", as we call it here, I dunno about Peruvian restaurants participating (I don't think the list of participating restaurants has come out yet), but I know there are great Peruvian restaurants in the city.

Legal wedding is July 1st. My friend is an ordained minister so instead of sitting in some office or something doing papers I think we will go down by the lake. Lu's parents and little sister will be coming here for that so I've been looking for things to do. Summerfest is also going on at that time, but I'm not sure her parents are really into something like that. Taste of Chicago on the other hand might be an awesome idea!

Got any names of those Peruvian restaurants? Lu is already crying about not having ceviche here hahahaha......poor girl.
