Another quick question, how is 'donating' dollars to a presidential nominee really 'participating' in politics? It's not like any contributor has any say in how their donation is spent apart from the obvious. Yes, it's great that people want to make donations and it's great that he doesn't have to rely on potentially uncomfortable large donations but that's all it is, a donation.

Actually, HC is doing that for PA.

If the people support their leaders rather than special interests buying them, I think it is a great way to participate and take back our government.

Tell me how that is 'participating and taking back your government' in a real way? Yes, he's a litte bit more removed from special intersts. Great, that is a good thing but that's it, end of. Reading anything more than that into it rather supposes that every other president up until today has made extremely bad judgement calls due to pressure from special interests. While I am not saying it had no effect, I don't think it's had the overwhelming corrupting effect that this notion seems to imply.

Personally, for me a better idea would to look at ways to reduce the requirement for spending these ridiculous amounts of money on campaigning but hey, maybe that's rather idealistic?

I believe the point is that Obama has been trying to make this about his vision of "change" and not about race. But it seems that he is using race in his campaign.

While the crowd was indeed diverse, some students at the event questioned the practices of Mrs. Obama’s event coordinators, who handpicked the crowd sitting behind Mrs. Obama. The Tartan’s correspondents observed one event coordinator say to another, “Get me more white people, we need more white people.” To an Asian girl sitting in the back row, one coordinator said, “We’re moving you, sorry. It’s going to look so pretty, though.”

...seems a bit frivolous to make such a claim and state the source as 'some students'.

No more frivolous than your 'sources' for non-numbers quoted earlier.... ;)

Yeah, maybe it never happend. Again, I don't really care that much one way or another, it's not exactly big news.

Since the majority of the audience was made up of students I wouldn't call it frivolous. Besides, what have you got against students? The ones over 18 will be voting just as you will. I would say their opinions carry just as much weight as anyone elses.

How dare you question the Obama disciples by talking sense?!

The whole story is a bit frivoulous, it doesn't really tell us very much that is interesting or new. The more interesting question to me is what exactly Barack wants to do with the political structure of the US, now that would be worth a good debate.

Of course, to do so we'd actually have to know what's being proposed apart from a new 'attitude' from politicians which comes about simply by 'interacting' with Barack.

Thats the big problem I have with Obama. So far he has gotten away with a general "change" platform. Not a lot of specifics as of yet. Empty rhetoric makes me nervous. It leaves a lot of room for a lot of things.

I'm saying it's frivolous to make a claim and then name the source as 'some students', particularly because of the implication of it. Should journalists start publishing news stories where witnesses are referred to as 'some people'? "Some people said they saw a flying saucer land over there." Well, I'm convinced now.

We've moved on, would you care to take a stab at the question of substance regarding the 'new political structures' that need to be implemented in order to bring about this new democratic alliance? Or, it it simply a question of changing people's attitudes? If the second proposition is true, how exactly does Barack set about changing the attitudes of all these politicians? What is his proposal to win over the skeptics?

Ahh, you want names and addresses. Unless you doubt the truth of the story why?

I guess that's all it is then? Donators feel included because they can say that they helped keep the special interests at bay? I am happy that people are so easily pleased. I guess we can forget about the lobbyists in Washington now as they have no power now?
