Hello,

I hope that somebody can help me out with this.

My employer at first said that I could add my fiance to my insurance policy once we are married provided he had 18 months credible continuous medical coverage. She said that NHS would be considered credible coverage, and that all I would need is a "Certificate of Coverage" stating type and length sof coverage.

I asked if his medical records would suffice since it is my understanding that such letters are not provided. She said no, and the only thing I could do is to switch over to the HMO plan in November, but the plan would not be in effect until the first of the year. Since he is Type I diabetic, hypertensive, and has diabetic neuropathy, this is potentially an extremely dangerous situation. Not to mention the fact that some specialists would not take HMO. I am currently awaiting her response to my query of whether letters from his physicians would suffice if they detail his medical history, and explain the NHS system. I also included this snippet of infomation taken from the NHS site which I sent to her.

"The National Health Service or NHS as it is more commonly known, was set up on the 5th July 1948 to provide healthcare for all citizens, based on need, not the ability to pay.

The NHS is funded by the taxpayer and managed by the Department of Health, which sets overall policy on health issues. It is the responsibility of the Department of Health to provide health services to the general public through the NHS."

Does anybody have any advice or pearls of wisdom if this does not work?

He would have been on the NHS from the day he was born. What you might do is contact the Primary Care Trust for the area he lives in and get more details from them

Try speaking to the insurance people instead of your employer? Seems they'd have a better idea of what's necessary.

Thank you for the suggestions! I shall relay the info to the fiance tomorrow so he can contact his Primary and I will get ahold of my insurance co. Unfortunately we are self-insured but have underwriters so hopefully they will be able to help me out too.

The evil ones would be the HR people. I think they have given me a couple more grey hairs. :crying:
