Ok, so don't know where to turn to except VJ forum :).

On April 1st, my wife's I-129F form was forwarded to the Mumbai consulate. We got confirmation from both the NVC as well as from the consulate itself (after several call attempts).

Anyways, we found out that the consulate sent packet # 3 through the postal service. Not just that, but they also shortened her address so it would fit in the address field. The packet is most likely lost in mail!!!!!!! :o

But, don't worry!!! My wife went to the consulate today and was able to pick up the packet from the consulate.

Here's are the questions I have:

1st. Do I need the I-134 or I-864 Affadavit of Support? On some sites (like VJ) it says that we need both forms but on the consulate site, it says that we only need the I-134? I'm confused!!! I'll send both, but which one does my wife send in to the consulate?

2nd. Are there any good guides on how to fill out packet # 3? Does anyone have any previous exprience?

3rd. Does anyone know how long it takes for the Mumbai consulate to turn-around after recieving packet # 3? Someone at the consulate told my wife that it won't be until June before we get Packet # 4, but looking at some of the VJ's time-lines this doesn't seem consistant. Does anyone have knowledge of this?

Thanks

JT

I had the same problem with the Packet 3 being lost in the mail. So, I did go and pick up Packet 3 at the Mumbai consulate. I submitted packet 3 on March 12 and they asked me to come pick up Packet 4 (incase it gets lost again) after 21 days. However, I called the consulate the next week itself and they told me that my interview date was May 6. And asked me to wait for atleast 10 days since they sent packet 4 out before I go back and collect it at the consulate. However, our Packet 4 did not get lost in the mail. :)

Also, my husband only got the I-134 ready as per the instructions in packet 3.

Hope this helps.

The-wait-is-on, I have a unique situation. I'm a US Citizen and wife is canadian citizen. We have relatives back in India. We got married in India 2 yrs back. Can you please guide me how this K3 process will work out in India? Can we mail packet3 and packet 4 from the US to the US embassy in india by downloading from website? If not can it be picked up and delivered by family in India? Appreciate any suggestion, advice & guidance.

1) I did not receive packet 3 either, so I downloaded off the Internet and mailed it to them.

2) Packet 3 is very simple, so I am not sure that you will really need help. But there is a sample DS-230 form at:

http://www.visajourney.com/forums/index.ph...p;page=examples

3) I am going through Mumbai consulate as well. They set the interview date and sent the packet 4 the same day that they received packet 3. The bad thing is they gave us an interview date two months later (we were expecting one month).

Hope this helps...

You can download the packet 3 off the consulate web site and mail it to them. That is okay. We just did it and confirmed with Mumbai consulate.

On receiving packet 3, the consulate will mail you packet 4. You can download the packet 4 forms but I don't think that it will help you much. You still need the appointment letter (that comes with packet 4) from consulate to get the medical done. I am not sure if the medical will apply in your case though.

Finally, you need to submit packet 4 forms along with supporting documents 7-10 days before interview at a VFS office. You cannot just mail packet 4 to them as you have to provide originals (unless you trust the mail system 100%) and collect the VFS receipt. You do not need to be personally there though.

Hope this helps...

Well, I would suggest mailing packet 3 to your relatives and then requesting them to personally go and drop off packet 3 at the consulate and then either wait for packet 4 to be delivered to them or ask them to collect it after 21 days.

The thing is, when I called up the consulate they suggested that I should come and drop off packet 3 personally since they get a ton of mail and sometimes it tends to get lost, so mailing from the US to the consulate directly would be a little risky. If your relatives stay in Mumbai itself (or whichever consulate city you come under) it will be better for them to personally go drop-off packet 3. They would need your BMB number and a copy of the beneficiary's passport. Again, Packet 3 can be downloaded off the website but the interview letter in packet 4 is not available online so that has to be collected. You can call the consulate with your BMB no. and find out the status of your case, whether Packet 3 has been mailed out (btw, where would Packet 3 and 4 be mailed out if you don't live in India?). Once you know its been mailed out, ask your relatives to drop off Packet-3 at the consulate.

Hope this helps !!!

Thank you, Shreyans and the-wait-is-on. I think I will need to ask mumbai us embassy if my wife can do the medical in canada from INS approved doctors as she has only a limited amount of leave (2 weeks).

Cool!! Thanks

Actually I have some updates to this story.

My wife was able to pick up packet 3 from the consulate. The very next day, my wife went back to the consulate and returned the packet with the applicant statement and the DS-230 form.

A consulate official also said that Packet 4 would be sent to us shortly (this time they took her phone # as well as double checking her address, since the first time they wrote her address wrong :( )

Anyways, the consulate official said that we would most likely get an interview date around the 1st week of June.

I think we have most everything ready for Packet 4. My wife was able to get the police cert report as well as her passport stamped, and I will be sending her the I-134 before next week.

Oh!!! I do have one question for anyone on this forum.

Am I supposed to send only the I-134 or both the I-134 and I-864?

Thanks

JT
