Somehow the Union manages to survive no matter who is in the White House...

Which unions in particular though the corrupt NY unions who use extortion and threats to survive?

The unions are what have almost bankrupted this nation.

According to the Internal Revenue Service, the 400 richest American households earned a total of $US138 billion, up from $US105 billion a year earlier. That's an average of $US345 million each, on which they paid a tax rate of just 16.6 per cent.

The country did just fine with the last Democrat in the White House - arguably a heck of a lot better than with the current Republican administration. You really ought to stop worrying about it so much. ;)
I would argue with it in fact. Much of the problems Bush is dealing with started or got worse with the last dem in the white house.

That's a fairy tale. Bush inherited a balanced budget. The National debt clock was turned off under Clinton. Things were going well. Yes, there was an economic slowdown at the end of Slick's term and the 9/11 attacks didn't exactly help get the economy back on track. But Bush's been fcuking up things all on his own from there forward. The huge deficits and the resulting current economic crisis was not made by Clinton, my friend.

He inherited a recession. When it comes to the economy it takes years for economic changes to actually take effect and work through the country.

The balanced budget was based on the fantacy of the internet bubble. There was never a real balanced budget. The eggs that Bubba layed hatched and came home to roost when Bush came to office.

You make it too easy on W here, Gary. He fcuked it up pretty good. The budget was balanced - or at the very least near balanced - whether you like it or not. Not all credit to Slick - the Republican Congress has been party to that success as well.

The last democrat in the WH balanced the budget with the tax increases imposed by his predessor, Bush Sr., as well as the "peace dividend" we heard so much about during Clinton's tenure.

Clinton spent the 8 years of his term basically asleep at the wheel, ignoring attack after attack on this country by Islamist extremist without much of a response at all.

I suspect the proof of what I just said was stuffed in Sandy Berger's socks whilst he perused the National Archives, unsupervised, and will never be made public.

Clinton, by underfunding the military and drawing down it's size, put the country at risk and that's also part of his "peace dividend".

It's been laughingly said many a time that as far as Clinton was concerned we were at peace, whilst the Islamist were at war with us.

GWB inherited quite a mess from Clinton's inaction and "peace dividend", and despite the 9/11 attacks, a subsequent recession in 2001, we still managed to grow this economy at a rate that exceeds any since WWII.

Even now, in "bad" times, the unemployment rate is a mere 4.5%, when during Clinton's years 7~9% were considered "normal"......

McCain will have this economy expanding again in no time; not to worry!

why is that the first statement a republican always says, the dems fukced it up first and the republicans just had to follow the mistake. how long has bush had now to straighten up this mess clinton suposidly started?

I think the last 6 years were pretty good. It's only lately that the economy has gone bad. I know I have been much better off while Bush was president than when Bubba was president. And I don't think the economy is as bad as it's made out to be.

By that same logic, shouldnt we have had a balanced budget during the housing bubble?

The housing market wasn't driving the stock market like the internet bubble was. Apples and oranges.

Wrong. Many mortages were turned into securities that were traded just like stocks.

But the internet bubble was purely stocks. Apples and oranges. You need to understand the past a little better Dan. But I guess you were to young then to really understand.

As far as the goverment is concenred, buying and selling of stocks, buying and selling of properties, and buying and selling of mortage backed securities all generate captial gains taxes. So Bush had quite a similar market situation as Clinton did. Bush, instead of running a balanced budget, which he would have easily been able to do, cut the captial gains taxes to reduce the revenue needed for a balanced budget.

Don't you just love it how we equate economic success with the creation of more service sector jobs that pay significantly less than previous employment conditions under Dems in power?

Plus, it would also be beneficial to look at every single economic index. They are not based on previous, cumulative effects on the current economy but rather are much closer to current times.

Wishing you ten-fold that which you wish upon all others.
