Wayne Rooney has "more than one fracture" and needs a "miracle" to be fit for the World Cup, according to England coach Sven-Goran Eriksson.

soz I don't read every thread in every forum.... ;) Thought someone would have mentioned it in here. Nevermind though. And yeah, I already knew what the injury was.

Our cable company ran the match today and I taped it. It looked like he just landed wrong when he got tripped by the defender. 99 out of 100 times he would get tripped up like that and bounce right back up.

As they say sh*t happens.

I generally agree. Rooney is talented, but to suggest he would make the difference between success and failure is, I think, a little insulting to the many other talented English players.

As a Scot, who will I be supporting? The USA, of course. Who else? :D

The initial mystery that attends any journey is: how did the traveller reach his starting point in the first place?

Well who are they going to replace him with that is as much of a threat to score? It would be like going into the World Series and your best pitcher hurts his arm or Super Bowl and best your best running back or receiver can't play. You can still win, but it is something you have to figure to be a big negitive.

Oh sure, I can't think of any single individual who is as much of a threat in front of goal, it's true. But a team that is based entirely around one player will always struggle. Luckily, I do believe that England have more depth than that.

Plus the other things is Owen still hasn't test himself for full match.

Owen doesn't exactly look ready. He's hardly played this season. I think it would be a mistake to stick him up front with his current level of fitness. Then again, without Rooney, our options are...um...Defoe? Crouch? Bent?

Actually, I read something interesting in another forum the other day where somebody suggested that Joe Cole play the Rooney role, ie forward dropping deep. Not a bad idea, if you ask me. Cole's been quality all season, and he's never looked all that comfortable in the England midfield.
