Presidential Election Subforum?

Is the separate forum *so* inconvenient? What's the big deal? It's not like it's a censorship issue, just organizational.

Exactly! There is no censoring going on. It just seems that VJ is resistant to change, as usual. Even if it is, imo, change for the better.

And then, after November? Illegal immigrants? Coup planning for Jan 20? More strippers? Bodily fluids thread take 5? Say Anything Thread take 10?

I'm those all those add to the top-notch quality of threads in OT.

What a joke.

The difference is that there are not 20 threads on strippers posted every day. There aren't 20 threads on bodily fluids posted each day. There aren't the sheer numbers of posts on these topics as there are with political threads.

I'm NOT against political threads. I am merely thinking of the other users of VJ who wish to be able to participate in OT once more. Many haven't lately because they feel a little overwhelmed by the constant barrage of anti/pro Clinton and anti/pro Obama threads. A different forum for politics is VERY normal on the internet, it's not some strange abhorrent creature that VJ has pulled out of its behind. The majority of big forums on the net HAVE a political forum.

In fact, you should be chuffed that it is being considered, not offended. It means that there is a huge amount of activity regarding politics, so much so that is deserves its own forum.

Simple fact is that the OT section of VJ is being over-run with politics, so much so that it isn't giving other topics a chance.

And what if I don't want to view about how menstral blood makes your skin better? Tough sh*t?

Then don't read the thread. That's the advice you use often in regards to the political threads.

Well, you can make a seperate "politics" subforum - I don't like it but I'll live with it. But it seems incredibly silly to think only the "election" should be contained there as I think about 65% of Off Topic conversation is political in nature - illegal immigration, the causes of poverty, terrorism, heck even prostitution and drugs are political topics. I would suggest that illegal immigration, poverty and "muslim" oriented topics cause a much greater divide here than whether you support Clinton, Obama or McCain. There is a very unpleasant "racial" undertone in many of these discussions that I think far more members object to though they are not as vocal as some of the people here.

The election is part of the ebb and flow of issues that get attention here. No one talks about 9-11 conspiracies any more but there used to quite a few threads on that topic. The election talk will subside after the Democrats pick their candidate, flare up again September and go away after November.

I see this as casuing more problems than it solves.

Whatever the decision is in the end, I'll support it. Whether it be a sub forum, a forum of its own, a filter or nothing at all.

I still have to check through topics when I can (or they are reported to me) regardless of where they are!

I wouldn't suggest that we do this just for the election - but use the other forum for all things overtly political/religous/illegal immigration-related and what have you.

Honestly I don't understand the fuss - or see what problems doing this would necessarily cause.

I really dislike when people cry censorship on these or other boards. Freedom of speech doesn't extend onto private "property." There is no free speech here, there's only speech that the owner (and by proxy, the moderators) allow. As it should be.

My view is that if we split off the politics into a dedicated forum we'll broaden the range of O/T topics, and perhaps provide something a bit more social that draws in some of the members who are otherwise put off O/T because of the preponderance of divisive topics...

The divisive topics can continue in their own area - and lets face it... its the same hard-core of members who are involved in them.

Couldn't agree more. As it stands, there's really no point in posting in a non-politicky off-topic post right now, as it will have hit page 3 within the hour.

Yep - I think its only fair to give some consideration to the rest of the membership. As much as many of us (myself included) enjoy participating in the aforementioned divisive topics.

Ok. Sticking with the same list, how many are political? I count 4 that are clearly political, 9 that are clearly not political, and 2 that could be political.

With the greatest respect, VJ Troll, today has been a slow day. There aren't as many as usual. Last week though the whole first page was full of obama/clinton topics.
