Steve - I find it deeply ironic that you have started a thread where everyone complains there are too many political threads :P

Don't get lost by the irony of it...the idea is valid on it's own merits. :P

I agree it has merits but when you and Number 6 are complaining about the volume of political posts I really do need to have my eyes checked to make sure they are working properly :P

I don't mind political threads so long as they facilitate an actual discussion. 90% of these election articles seem to be presentational smear pieces with no meat to them and of the most dubious provenance.

It's ironic too, that the same thing was pinned on me over global warming and illegal immigration threads. I happen to post a lot of original threads on many topics, as does VJTroll, Gary, Dev, metta, Amber, Charles... There's also a lot of VJ'ers who rarely if ever start a thread, but are quite active on the boards. Perhaps some people are too timid to want to post an original thread because of the criticism or scrutiny that comes with it...to each their own.

In any case, some of the regular posters of threads have flooded OT with election threads, and when I say flooded, I'm talking about a dozen or more about the same candidate, by the same poster and it seems (I could be wrong), that they're intention isn't to get a discussion going but more like leaving those annoying brochures under the wiper blades of your car's windshield. I think it was Platy who I think rightly pointed it out as spamming the board. Rather than risk making it look as if any specific poster is being singled out, I've suggested a subforum, where they can spam/post new election threads to their hearts content without flooding the OT forum on a daily basis.

The idea has been raised before and ridiculed to death - with the stock "don't have to read" response.

I don't see the problem with a separate politics/religion forum - as I say many other forums have them and they work pretty well.

Nothing wrong with showing a little consideration for people who aren't (or aren't as) interested in politics or the election.

"spamming the board"

I can't see any one poster that is more guilty of doing that than any number of the "thread starters" you mention.

I don't see a problem with a sub-forum. Merging threads I do not want.

Should I keep it as a sub forum under Off Topic or make it its own Forum on the main index. Regardless the forum will probably stay up until the elections are over. There were certainly enough unique topics to the elections to start to fill it up :P.

Politics and Religion.

You don't need much more than that.

Not everyone wants to discuss those things or be exposed them. Nothing wrong with having a choice and it doesn't impact on anyone's free speech.

And what if I don't want to view about how menstral blood makes your skin better? Tough sh*t?

I can only hope this new forum has the same unbiased modding as OT. Fingers crossed!
