I think it would be easy enough for the mods to PM the offenders and tell them to quit it. When "regular" members try to suggest that someone has gone overboard, it is usually met with a "well, if you don't like it, then don't click on it" attitude.

I don't really see the problem with the election. I don't see one person or even a gew engaging in the debate.

During my years of perusing this website, it has definitely gone through "phases" of popular topics that threaten to "overwhelm" OT - 9-11 conspiracy theories, global warming, illegal immigration, etc. Many people on this board have pet issues that they like to post about. Since the election is current, it is not surprising that people want to talk about it and post about their POV.

I certainly don't think there's need to create a new thread for every single article that's dredged up. After all, many of the "anti Obama / Clinton" threads reiterate the same basic points, just in a different ways. How many times can you have the same conversation....

Probably why many of them get single digit (if any) replies.

I'm sure we can find an obscure reference to a comment she made in 1980, contrast that with a later statement from 2005 and say "liar". Hell it works with cigarettes.

And perhaps John McCain doesn't like shellfish. I guess that makes him anti-shellfisher.

What about a 'topic selector' drop down menu when someone posts a new thread? Let the OP decide how they want to categorize their thread - Politics, Immigration, Religion, Relationship, Humor, Current Events, Personal. Then have a filter option that would only show you the threads in the topics you are interested in.

Currently (at this moment), only the top 15 threads display on the first page in OT, and 4 of them are have to do the elections, which is lower than it normally is.

I'm not normally into micromanaging discussion, but summat needs to be done with all these political threads. Dunno what the appropriate solution is, but something should be done. Cos it's completely out of hand.
